How many jumps is a canopy good for?

Recommended Posts

For a zero P canopy, 400 to 800 jumps is nothing, although it might be ready for a new line set depending on the conditions of where the canopy has been jumped.

For an F111 canopy, 800 jumps is getting up there, but lots of F111 canopies have more than that number of jumps on them and are still airworthy.

Have a rigger inspect.

Depends on how it's been maintained and where it's been jumped. Lots of out-landings in the desert at Perris or Eloy, or being left out in the sun a lot, will cause much faster wear.
...

The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.

The canopy itself is probably good for 1500-2000 jumps; beyond that it will likely either need extensive work or will fail catastrophically. The line sets are good for 300-500 jumps depending on line type. Replacing a line set is a common maintenance procedure that will run you a few hundred dollars.

My ex AFF instructor sold his trusty stiletto last year to dude on our DZ. Before doing that he sent it back to PD who gave it a full test and new line set. (its fifth set) The canopy was given a clean bill of health and is still in use....not bad considering it now has about 5000 jumps on it!!!!

The instructor who it belonged to is very meticulous with kit and it obviously shows.

Blue ones :)
