cocheese 0 #1 January 10, 2011 I was pressured to join Facebook by friends at the dz who said I was missing out on certain events. They said they all keep in touch on Facebook and don't have to play catch-up when they see each other. Ok Ok So I joined. It's not as bad as I thought. It's a lot like the Bonfire. What I have noticed: There is a lot of skydiver stuff on there that our whuffo friends are being exposed to. Actually, I've "hidden" from most of the non- jumper friends that I haven't seen in years. Do you think Facebook is good for our sport? Have any of your whuffo friends on Facebook made a jump because of you? Is exposing ourselves to EVERYONE about our skydive life a good thing? jtval 0 #4 January 10, 2011 Facebook isn't promoting skydiving anymore than DZ.com promotes boobies. Where'd the booby icon go?) (.)Y(.) However it give skydivers a place to promote the sport they are involved with. Much like Bonfire give us a forum to talk about boobies. And yes most of my whuffo friends have either jumped or flown in the wind tunnel. My photos My Videos
Airman1270 0 #5 January 10, 2011 Perhaps exposure to the sport in such an informal, matter-of-fact manner will inspire the people who might have been inclined to make a jump anyway. I can't imagine the ones who are not interested will change their minds by listening to skydivers talk about it. Cheers, Jon S.
cocheese 0 #6 January 10, 2011 It's not just the "talk", It's awesome videos, pictures, and events. Also most skydivers on Facebook are bombarded by mostly skydiver replies to their posts. It's like our "best kept secret" is getting out. I'm not sure if that is a good thing or not.

cocheese 0 #8 January 10, 2011 That's my point. Your non-jumping friends are being exposed daily to skydiving stuff they would otherwise never see or hear about.

Discuss My FB friends are overwhelmingly skydivers and family. Only a very few who are not either. Of the friends who are not jumpers, none have any interest in skydiving other than my brother (who made a jump before I did. I think he's got one S/L and a couple of tandem jumps). Roxxx 0 #18 January 12, 2011 the fuc- book, I mean, facebook, is BS... It's all fun and games till a person is targeted and hunted... then, friends and family become targets as well... We met a bunch of lawyers from FL who said they use the FB to scan/hunt... I'm not a fan of the risks; it’s too much. I'll freak'n jump from a plane, but FB is some scary sheetot! We had a hit based on health supps... not pretty... Marine sorwd on the floor, American flag pulled out and thrown down... life is life, but it is like a skydive that anything can happen... Online trail can be used against us and/or others. It’s like me taking nude pics and putting them on my house.
