Hooknswoop 19 #1 March 17, 2005 I just tried to open a reserve and my finger still hurts from trying to break the seal, which I wasn't able to. I maxed out my spring scale at 30 pounds without breaking the seal. Derek
nicknitro71 0 #2 March 17, 2005 Was this just a test? If it really happened did you call the rigger who did it. If there is one there could be others.Memento Audere Semper
Hooknswoop 19 #3 March 17, 2005 Not a test, this rig was jumped like this. I am working to find the rigger and contact them. Derek
bob.dino 1 #4 March 17, 2005 What is E thread? Obviously, apart from tough to break.
nicknitro71 0 #5 March 17, 2005 E thread (69) is what it's used to sew canopies and some parts of the container. It has a tensile strenght of 8.5 lbs while the safety thread that we use to seal the pack has a tensile strenght of 4.75 lbs, a big difference.Memento Audere Semper
Hooknswoop 19 #6 March 17, 2005 At least 8.5 pounds, plus it is doubled. See the pic attached to the first post. Derek
nicknitro71 0 #7 March 17, 2005 Derek, from the pic I can't tell. Was is doubled it around the pin? If that is the case this is some serious stuff. We are not even supposed to double the regular safety thread! Were you able to pull the handle at some point? Do you think the average jumper was able to pull the handle?Memento Audere Semper
linestretch 0 #8 March 18, 2005 do you have a clearer pic? You can block out the seal#. Can you say what state is was packed in....physically, not mentally.my pics & stuff!
Hooknswoop 19 #9 March 18, 2005 Quote Derek, from the pic I can't tell. Was is doubled it around the pin? Yes. QuoteWere you able to pull the handle at some point? Yes, but it was a hard pull. Quote Do you think the average jumper was able to pull the handle? Probably. What finally allowed it to release was the thread slipping through the seal, the thread didn't break. riggerrob 643 #21 March 18, 2005 QuoteThanks Derek. At lest they did not use size 5 thread >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 5 thread is a European specification similar to American MIL-SPEC/PIA-SPEC E-Thread (aka commercial size 69 bonded nylon thread) with a breaking strength of 8.5 pounds. Perhaps you were referring to 5 Cord, which has a 40 pound breaking strength and is used to sew the important joints in harnesses. I am working on it. Another rigger brought the rig to me to pack because they were swamped, so I don't know the owner. The other rigger is going to talk to the owner and find out who the rigger was and then contact me. I will contact the rigger, hopefully today. I don't know how to go any faster than that beyond putting their seal code here and I am not going to do that.
