scotch guard

OK my reserve is on its way and I have my serial number for my main, so the container is also close to production.
When it does finally get here, what is the best way (most effective) to scotch guard my container.
Is it just an aerosol spray on, or is there an emersion or some sort. I'm thinking an emersion would penetrate the fibres better.?

I used 2 cans of Red Cap Scotchguard and it has done a really good job so far.. on the very few occasions I have gotten any dirt on my rig B| I just use a stiff brush and dust my rig off. Use light coats.. let it dry in between coatings.. Concentrate on the parts that get the most wear and tear from the Earth. Leg straps.. main container.. reserver covers... just go for it

What Amazon said. Also, when the dirt gets on your rig, let the dirt dry and get crusty and dusty before using the stiff brush. The stiff brush I use is a natural plant bristle brush (not nylon and certainly not metal) available at the supermarket.

And for the record, I almost never get dirt on my rig, it's busty sailors who borrow my rig that do. :P

Thats what I did and it does work, especially 2 cans.
I did everything like you said but I always stayed away from the reserve tray. Not sure exactly why but to me it didn't even matter if it would be a problem or not. I just thought there is really no reason for it, so why take whatever chance there may be?

Probably just over thinking things though?

All that I did has already been said, although my three coats were light enough that one can was plenty.

One thing to add - keep shaking the can throughout the spraying process so the product doesn't clot. A clot landing on your rig may leave a small stain.

I have only had to clean my rig once - a small grass stain patch on one leg strap. I used Shout Wipes immediately after it happened, and was able to simply blot the stain away with a wet washcloth when I got home.

Do a forum search for more on Shout Wipes.

Yeah, I did three coats and used about 3/4 of a can, like my rigger told me to. He also told me to cover up the steel. It will not damage it at all, but it does mean you have to clean the scotchguard off it later.

With the leftoever, I scotchguarded my freefly suit I just got. :)

kind of a follow-up question, can you do this after the reserve is packed? just wondering because i'm having my rig delivered away form home and hope to have the cypres installed and the reserve packed before i get there to save time... might not get to the scotch guard until i get home.

I would ask one of the riggers about that.. or the rig manufacturer.
I did mine while no canopies were installed.

I would think if you stuck to the parts most likely to get dirty.. outside of the main area tne front of the rig and the leg straps and keep the coats really light so none of the wetness soaked thru you would be ok.. but I would avoid the reserve portion of the rig just in case. you could always mask off the reserve flaps to help keep any overspray away.
