npgraphicdesign 3 #1 January 16, 2011 I'm thinking of getting the GoPro HD Hero 960 http://www.goprocamera.com/products/hd-hero-960-camera.php and using it not just for skydiving, but also for skiing. Also was thinking of picking up a chest mount for the skiing use. Has anyone used their GoPro for sports other than skydiving? And in general, how do you like the camera, video/picture quality, etc? lauraliscious 0 #2 January 16, 2011 We have one, have used it for snorkeling/scuba/underwater pictures too. It's great. I have a non-skydiving co-worker who has one that he mounts to his motorcycle. He really likes it. As for the picture/video quality, it's pretty good. Can't complain. Sometimes pics aren't in focus or are too dark and as far as skydiving pictures go, you'd be much better off getting a dedicated still camera. But for videos it's decent. Sometimes it takes great pictures too, just seems to be more hit or miss with that. I think the only difference is that the 960 doesn't do 1080p video.

skydude2000 3 #5 January 17, 2011 I just bought the 960 (should be here next week. Yippeee!) I read in the FAQ section that they're all the same camera, but each kit comes with more/different mounts. That's why the differences in price. Maybe I'm confused about that. I'll let you know when it gets here.PULL!! or DIE!!

ETA: Maybe they've improved the the pic quality on the newer 960s, but I know a couple people with some that are ~2 years old, and the quality isn't very good.*I am not afraid of dying... NickDG 23 #8 January 17, 2011 I use the GoPro HD on my motorcycle . . . The 1080p is terrific on a big screen (Youtube doesn't do it justice) and it has wind noise canceling built into its firmware so the sound is pretty good too. For the price you can't go wrong. (I believe there's a slightly stripped down model out now for under $200.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlxraPVtMKc NickD

I'm doing a race called Tough Mudder in May, which involves a lot of water obstacles. Would love to use a chest mount with a GoPro, as long as it is waterproof. lauraliscious 0 #15 January 17, 2011 I'm not positive, thought it was called the Hero, but it is NOT the HD model. We've had it about 2 years now I think. Sounds like the HD one does better with the picture quality, but I'm not sure? Ours was the cheaper of the 2, around $180 sounds about right. The camera itself is not waterproof, but the case for it is fully waterproof. We've fully submersed ours with no problems at all. I'm sure it'd be fine as long as it's in the case (usually the case is what you use to mount it anyway, so it's usually in the case if you are using it for any type of sport)...
