Conundrum 1 #26 January 26, 2011 Seriously, what was the winning team supposed to do? Stop scoring and just play monkey in the middle with the other girls? That would have been more insulting than losing by a landslide.
Gene03 0 #27 January 27, 2011 Quote Quote Quote I don't think it matters that it was a girls' sport. It completely matters. No coach of a team of guys would have allowed his team to be brutalized like that. It might hurt their self esteem. When I played football in high school, we were a bunch big ole of corn fed farmboys that kicked ass all year every year...until the state finals. We'd always end up going against the Chicago area schools that played a faster, less physical more talented game. Nothing was MORE frustrating than half way through the game, realizing your opponent was playing 1/2 speed...as an athlete I felt better being blown out by a superior opponent than when I was 'allowed' to keep it close. The truth finally comes out.“The only fool bigger than the person who knows it all is the person who argues with him. jakee 1,595 #28 January 27, 2011 Nice response from the opposing coach: “I don’t know why the score was that high, or what the point was”... Because no one likes to admit they're shit at their job Do you want to have an ideagasm?

happythoughts 0 #31 January 27, 2011 some teams will pass the ball a lot. then it becomes an obvious game of "keep away" and is very demeaning. the best choice is to have the team shoot from the outside. they score less, but build skills.
rehmwa 2 #32 January 27, 2011 if you respect the other team's members, you will always play to the best of your ability and the score will be whatever it is. It's not the score that would show disrespect - it will be the attitude of the winning team that shows respect or disrespect. I see a thread title that just shows a couple numbers - I'm more interested in how the members of both teams acted among themselves and how they acted towards the other team members. ... CSpenceFLY 1 #34 January 27, 2011 Didn't read the whole thread so this might have been touched on. How are you supposed to limit the score? Put in your water boy? What if the other team still can't score? Do you bring out your super secret physically challenged members? Give me a break. If you don't want to loose by 100 points then don't suck at the game you are trying to play. This is all assuming that the winning team wasn't cheating by haven't players that were to old to be in this game.
AndyBoyd 0 #35 January 27, 2011 I played hockey for a lot of years. Never at a high level, I admit, but I was in the sport for a long time. I've been on both sides of blowout games, and virtually every time, the team on top would back off the gas a bit about halfway through the second period. It was never obvious, like the winning team would just play keep-away with the puck or anything, it was just that the winning team would just slow everything down a little. Now I don't know how many of you out there have played men's league hockey, but even at the lower levels, things could get pretty intense. But everyone realized that there was a time to back off. It's amazing to me that the coach of the winning team in this basketball game, and the players, could not see that. I'm not suggesting that they should have quit scoring or intentionally missed baskets. But the fact that they scored so many points indicates that they didn't back off at all. To me, that is bad sportsmanship and a lack of class.

CSpenceFLY 1 #38 January 27, 2011 On second thought, I guess it would be a good time for the players to push their own limits and try for longer shots and stuff like that.
