I have come to the conclusion that both crosswalk and elevator 'door close' buttons, for the most part, aren't really connected to anything. They are just there to give us something to do while waiting on something to happen in it's own sweet time.

I am not a cross walking poll or an elevator door with buttons but I like it when my buttons are touched just right....

I push all the buttons on the poll and elevator just cause they are there and someone has to push them..

To the OP- Yep, I think that "close doors" button is a dummy button, installed by behavioral psychologists. Reminds me of touring one of the old Air Force 1 jets on display up at Boeing Field. The President's office had a dummy thermostat switch installed so he could "control" the heat. Pretty good prank on the prez.

There is a crosswalk button just a mile from my house, which if pressed before 6am, gives an instant green light.
Pressed after 6am, it does nothing.

While riding the scoot, I occasionally come across a light that uses either a magnetic signature or a pressure sensor that my bike will not set off. I'll wait it out about 3 minutes and if I can't trigger it, I'll drop the kickstand and go push the crosswalk button if there is one. It always works for me. If there isn't one, I'll just run the light when it's clear. Most states have laws in place where it's legal to run a light after a specified amount of time on a bike because not all sensors pick them up.

Some people refrain from beating a dead horse. Personally, I find a myriad of entertainment value when beating it until it becomes a horse-smoothie.

When I was working in China it was comical to watch them on elevators - when they get in, they hit the floor they want then pound on the Door Close button until we start moving, then when close to their floor, start pounding on the Door Open button!! It would have been funny, but when a group of them come in, all smoking rough Chinese cigarettes, it got real nasty, real fast!!

I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..

But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
