cvfd1399 0 #1 March 14, 2005 How accurate is the Max speed that is shown on the Vigil? Today I did a head down jump my Vigil showed a max speed of 254, and my neptune mounted in my Z1 hemlet showed 196 at 12k. I know it is only a reading at that altitude, and I dont have paralog software. My question is it reasonable to assume that it the Vigil is pretty accurate, say with in 10-15 mph? dragon2 2 #2 March 14, 2005 The speed reading is affected by pressure change. For instance you can usually spot when a pro-track or neptune was in/on your helmet by looking at the graph in jump-track/paralog because the graph has a lot of tiny spikes from you moving your head. An AAD is affected by changes in pressure as well, so if you change positions (IE HD to sit) it'll read inaccurately for a bit. I'd look at the graphs to see if there're aren't any weird spikes to see if the speed is accurate. Also I'm not sure if the Vigil shows mph or kmh? A max speed of 254 WHAT? The Neptune standard speed readings are average speeds over 1000 ft (I think, and with the software the field reps have you can change this), so you can't compare the two anyway. ciel bleu, Saskia
cvfd1399 0 #3 March 14, 2005 The Vigil and neptune are set to mph. I guess if I really want to work on speed I need to get the paralog software and mount the neptune on my ankle.
mr2mk1g 10 #4 March 14, 2005 If you really want to work on speed you need two and mount them on each lateral so you can compare the two sets of data and make sure you're not fish-tailing.
Praetorian 1 #5 March 14, 2005 Don't know about the neptune or vigil but the paper work on the protrack notes their own special way of tracking speed (skydiver speed) which assumes a constant air pressure of 7K and uses that to calculate from .. I think ... I've only read the paperwork once and don't have it with me... might want to be sure both devices are doing the math based on the same assumptions before you try to compare them.. alt and speed are interconnected when you are doing the measurement based on pressure change Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
