Hellis 0 #1 February 15, 2011 I dont know if any of you guys ever notice the google add to the left here. Usually it shows adds for skydiving equipment and tandems for me. But today, a few hours after i came home from the store with my latest purchase. WOW. Sorry about the blurry picture, but i had trouble not geting the flash to bounce of the screen. ManagingPrime 0 #10 February 15, 2011 QuoteDid you use Google on that browser to search for that product prior to your purchase of it? We have a winner. I've noticed the ads for the last few weeks. Planning trip to vegas. Vegas ads all over dz.com. I'm sorry diamonds shortly after vegas trip...zales ads on dz.com...lasik surgery gift to self after breakup...that's right...lasik ads. Makes me glad that I don't pay google for ads...sucks for the advertisers. lol
MX304 0 #11 February 15, 2011 Firefox ad block is a wonderful thing. I have often wondered it it works both ways though. Will it prevent Google from seeing your searches etc, or just keep you from seeing their ads?
ManagingPrime 0 #12 February 15, 2011 searches and ads are tied to IP address. I would think that you would have to use a proxy to do searches to avoid the link between the two.

Hellis 0 #14 February 16, 2011 QuoteDid you use Google on that browser to search for that product prior to your purchase of it? No, thats the creepy part. I did not search for specific climbing gear. I have googled for climbing stores as names of the stores, not "climbing stores in the area". Both of those stores i googled have climbing gear but its not their main category. But once i have got to the sites i googled i have gone straight for climbing gear. Can google read cookiefiles? Not that i really care, but its just very creepy

Not that i really care, but its just very creepy That information is enough. They use cookies fairly extensively to figure out what kind of ads to show to you. http://www.google.com/privacy/ads/ QuoteFor the Google Display Network, we serve ads based on the content of the site you view. For example, if you visit a gardening site, ads on that site may be related to gardening. In addition, we may serve ads based on your interests. As you browse websites that have partnered with us or Google sites using the DoubleClick cookie, such as YouTube, Google may place the DoubleClick cookie in your browser to understand the types of pages visited or content that you viewed. Based on this information, Google associates your browser with relevant interest categories and uses these categories to show interest-based ads. For example, if you frequently visit travel websites, Google may show more ads related to travel. Google can also use the types of pages that you have visited or content that you have viewed to infer your gender and the age category you belong to. For example, If the sites that you visit have a majority of female visitors (based on aggregated survey data on site visitation), we may associate your cookie with the female demographic category. Basically when ever you Google for something, search something on youtube, view a site with google ads they will know about the content and/or searches and will compile all the info into a profile associated to you. And it happens fairly fast too. I searched for the Mammut products in your picture to see what it was about and as I was writing this post, and pressed preview post, the Google ad sense on this site showed their (Mammut's) ad.Your rights end where my feelings begin.
