nigel99 613 #1 February 16, 2011 My wife is at a speeding awareness course as she had the choice of a fine and points or a fine and the course. It is the 2nd time that she has been on the course and she is 3 points away from losing her license. The instructor went round the room and asked why people speed. My wife answered honestly that it is because she likes driving fast as it is fun. She drives a BMW sport and reckons that nearly everyone else on the course has either a sports car or SUV. She gets pissed cause I have a clean license - never had a speeding ticket ever.Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived. MikeJD 0 #4 February 16, 2011 Quote because she likes driving fast as it is fun I'm surprised they let her do the course twice - I'd always assumed that was a one-shot deal, and after that you wouldn't be able to avoid the points. Did she also say she got caught a second time because the first course wasn't any good?

regulator 0 #6 February 16, 2011 I got two damn tickets yesterday. The first one going TO work...87 in a 65. The DPS cop spilt coffee all overhimself trying to pull me over..and coming BACK from work...83 in a 65...all on the same road. Damn I can't wait until daylight savings time kicks in! Now I have to take defensive driving and go to court for the other one and hope I can get deferred adjudication. Damn the luck.
CanuckInUSA 0 #7 February 16, 2011 If she likes to drive fast, she needs to visit a race track and take the BMW out for some DE track days. Trust me she will never view driving fast on the public roads the same way again. Once someone gets to drive a car at their limits on a race track, they will realize driving fast on the public roads is silly and sometimes very dumb. Technically I still speed on the public roads. But going 120-130 kph in a 110 kph zone is not fast. Going 220+ kph and in the space of 400 feet braking hard to make a turn at 140 kph ... now that is where the action is at. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

MikeJD 0 #9 February 16, 2011 Quote Damn the luck. Well, to be fair I'm not sure you can blame your luck, unless you mean you were unlucky to be born with a heavy right foot! Doing 87 in a 65 zone and not getting a ticket is good luck. Everything else is (as we say over here) 'a fair cop'. By the way, what's the significance of daylight savings? Unsafe driving is selfish and stupid and can affect a lot of innocent people in an unsafe fashion. Preaching to the converted here I generally don't speed as it just isn't worth it. You save very little time, the chances of an accident go up and you use more fuel. She won't admit it but more than simply speeding she is a careless driver. She has the attention span of a lightning bolt and will get involved talking or listening to music and "forget" that she is driving and stops giving the road full attention. You see alot of moms driving forwards and looking over their shoulder dealing with kids Generally speaking if I see drivers on their phone, texting, eating, putting on makeup, dealing with kids I will give them a wide berth. I have seen a guy having a wank while driving who I also gave a very wide berth once I realised what the heck was going on. The only exception to the above was just past Heathrow some good looking girl stripped off in the passenger seat and proceeded to give the driver a blow job in rush hour traffic - that was to entertaining to missExperienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived. I've had sportbikes since I was 17.(about 12 years) and rode very hard and crazy on the street. I finally decided to start trying some track days. I was hooked on the track after that. I hardly ever drive hard on the street anymore. I'm almost scared to ride out on the street now awy from the "sanitary" comtrolled confines of the track. regulator 0 #18 February 16, 2011 They dont outlaw radar detectors in texas...funny how they would confiscate radar detectors in the UK when it seems (at least from what TV I see from over there) that a majority of the people are using tiny compact cars that wouldnt go much over the speed limit if you supercharged 'em. Could be me though.

Could be me though. I don't think you have been to the UK? In general on the motorways people travel much faster than in the US. I think the generally accepted view is that you are unlucky to be pulled for speeding at less than 85MPH in many parts of the country (on motorways of course). Also spending time in the US we tend to bitch about how badly your cars handle! They "float" around corners and it is all about power/weight ratio. Our typical cars probably have half the HP but a quarter of the weight of an american car. Also detectors are legal and not a problem. Only devices that attempt to fool or trick the camera's or radar guns are illegal.Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived. warpedskydiver 0 #23 February 16, 2011 I once got a ticket in WI on the way to Madison in bumper to bumper traffic where it was reduced to 1 lane on I 90. I was between two semi trucks. The asshole that pulled me over searched my car after i disputed the speed he claimed, he then whipped out the credit card machine (manual) and told me to pay now or go to jail. I then said no, he completed searching my car and pulled a data collector out of its case, he then started pushing buttons, I told him if he corrupted any data my company would sue him and his department for the over $100K in data stored in it (actually far more raw data than that I found) he then dropped it on the pavement. Our company lawyer sued the living shit out of them, they also dropped the speeding ticket. The cop called to tell my boss I was drunk and belligerent (7am) he told the cop to quit lying and find a factory job then hung up on him. I was on my way to a WIDOT conference at the capitol. What a fucking loser that cop was.
