Sheep jump off cliff

Recommended Posts

The problem is the basic herd mentality in such animals, that actually has served to protect them in many situations. But when it comes to running towards a cliff, the animals piling up in back, push the ones in front over the edge.

Ancient man has taken advantage of this flaw in beasts like buffalo, by working them up into a stampede and running them over a cliff. I've visited several "buffalo jump" sites where this was done.

I've also been to a site where the U.S. Cavalry stampeded captured Indian ponies over a cliff, so that they wouldn't return to the Indians, in order to deny the Indians they're mobility, and defeat them. That was a more expedient way to mass kill them then to use up valuable ammunition needed for self defense.

It's sort of like the the instinct of musk oxen to bunch up in a circle, with the adults facing outward, to protect the young from predators like wolves. This behavior works great against natural predators. But the problem is that man is smart enough to defeat their instinctive system - when a gun is used, the musk ox can just be picked off one at a time.

Hey! Lemmings and skydivers can do it...why not sheep?

So....the sheep saw the green light? When will they learn to spot.

The spotting sheep gave the three-count: "Bah! Ram! Ewe!"

I thought it was "3-2-1, see-ewe!"

I always wondered what would happen if you did that backwards - does it become a skydive?

If you had been born in the land of the freemen and the home of the braves, you would have known this.
