teason 0 #1 March 10, 2005 I've been talking to several extrememly knowledgable people in the equipment manufacturing field and no one has even heard of TAS. Can anyone tell me if this is old terminology (like AOD) or maybe just a canadian thing? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills! teason 0 #2 March 10, 2005 Ooops, sorry. TAS stands for two action system, as oppossed to single operatin system or SOS. It's basically means a two handle system. I first learnt the acronym when I went from the SOS student gear I was trained on to two handle on my first sport rig.I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet. I'm going down east for my mom's 80th birthday and was checking out the student gear that a few dropzones have because my son is still on student status. Several of them responded to my request saying their gear was TAS. I didn't have a clue when I first saw TAS. I've learned a lot of new acronyms in the last 18 months. I still think they should be called AOD's and, damn it, a PC is a high performance round canopy."Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

If I remember right the only reason they changed from AOD to AAD was for liability reasons? Is that correct?
teason 0 #7 March 11, 2005 If I remember the story correctly, because the "O" stood for opening, the implication was that the device "opened" the parachute, which it can't possibly do. Changing it to activation made it more acurate. I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet.
