Bison vs bear in Yellowstone

Supposed to be authentic pictures. The injured bison outran the bear, but was put down by park rangers the next day.

The day after that there was a large BBQ party I bet.

If they wasted all the meat on that Bison they should be fired.

Ok - so let me get this straight. The bison felt well enough to outrun a Grizzly Bear, after being burned and outrunning a Forest Fire . . . yeah - so by all means lets see if he can out run a bullet.

WTF? Didn't the bison earn a commuted sentence?

Did he not fight hard enough for his life?

Did the Park Rangers feel irony was more important?

I can't believe this. Why didn't they try to HELP the bison, instead of ending it?

If by the next day it was unable to get up and dying an agonizing death maybe they were being kind. The story doesn’t give us enough information.

Looking at those pics again, I think it needed to be put down while still edible, otherwise it would have died from infection starting on the burn wounds.

Dying from infection is really cruel, then the result would be what only scavengers would eat.

Yep. Last time I was hiking there I was worried about falling through the crust around a hot spring. Then I saw bison shit, and realized that if a bison had been standing there taking a dump, the crust could support me. From that point on I looked for the piles before getting close to a spring.

A few miles later I saw a bison that _had_ fallen through a crust. Well, half a bison; the spring had dissolved/cooked away his lower half. It looked like his hindquarters had fallen through and he hadn't been able to free himself.
