Happy thread --my new MacBook Air

Recommended Posts

I'm tired of the relationship threads, but I'm in major procrastination mode. I have alot of data to analyze that's going to be messy and complicated. I'll put that off a little longer and play with my new toy:)
Anyone else love their mac?

How much ram and storage did you get? My co-worker got the 11" with 2gb ram and 64 gb storage. She is thrilled with hers as well....and I keep looking at them online debating whether to get one or not. What are the main things you use it for?

I just went with the 2gb ram and 64 storage (the cheapest model). I probably won't store much on it since it's a second laptop. I keep most of my files on a portable hard drive since I work on multiple computers. I mostly wanted maximum portability. I worked on a powerpoint presentation this afternoon while I was waiting at my daughter's gymnastics class, it was really handy. So far, I'm extremely happy with it. I was a little worried about the screen being small but it's fine.

Sounds great! How much free space do you have left after installing Office?

All the Mac laptops can go to much higher resolution on an external monitor than is supported by the internal display.
According to the specs, the Air can go up to 2560 by 1600 on an external display.
I am running an 24" external display on a Macbook Pro right now, at 1920x1200.

To do this, you need to go into "clamshell mode":
1. Attach external display & keyboard.
2. Configure the external display as "mirrored".
3. Close lid so it goes to sleep.
4. Touch key on external keyboard.
It will wake up and change the resolution to that of the external monitor.

Once in clamshell mode, it is a good idea to open the lid for cooling. Even with the lid open, the internal display will stay off, but the keyboard and trackpad will be usable.

Very good point and something I hadn't considered....makes the 11" Air very appealing.

I'm a graphic designer by trade, and I'll have this to say about MACs/PCs.

- I've worked on both for about 11 years now and can go between them almost seamlessly.
- I love the MACs simply because I think they are more user friendly, their GUIs/OSs are superior on most levels, and they are less susceptible to virii, spam, etc.
- I love PCs because they are more mainstream and easier to customize.
- I love the fact that for about 1/2 the price of a top of the line MAC desktop, I can build a PC that will blow it out of the water.

In short, I love both for various reasons. I can't pick a side. :P:ph34r::D
