kallend 2,151 #1 March 10, 2011 Got the AT&T U-Verse voice + high speed internet option. They don't tell you up front that it disables EVERY other phone in your house. You only discover that after you've installed it and find they don't work any more. To make them work you have to buy the TV package (which I don't want) or pay for one of their installers to come and fix the problem that they've just f---ed up your phone lines. They tell you not to turn on the system until after 8pm on the day of installation. Then the help-line number they give on the installation kit only works during "normal working hours". Spent 2 hours on "chat" with their agents. They might as well have been in Bangalore for all the help they were. What a f---ed up company and system.... cocheese 0 #2 March 10, 2011 Just got cable hooked up at my new place 2 minutes ago. What a fiasco. The guy was here for 2 hours and had to make 20 calls. He didn't even have to climb the pole. He complained that nobody does their job etc. Oh and my modem doesn't work with their stuff so i had to pay for one of theirs. Also found out that the guy who sold the package lied about being able to get basic cable. 200 channels of shit and no NASA channel which is free to them. Yay, fake wrestling in HD. CarrieByTheSea 0 #3 March 10, 2011 You know, I was ambivalent for a long time before, but I am really starting to like you. I never would have opted to try U-Verse (or anything else AT&T), but I get why a lot of people do. I just got an email today from Verizon, the iPad 2 will be available tomorrow. Woo-hoo! Except, seems pricey for how often/what I would use it for. TBC... "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
regulator 0 #4 March 10, 2011 I work for a global company in their IT department. AT&T is our service provider. We just had our MPLS link go down and currently there are 35 offices down....from benecia, california to ontario, canada. And the list it growing. Yes AT&T sucks...but I worked in telecom for 12 years before switching careers in IT...most of them are pretty equivalent. It happens. I dont know many that offer the capacity AT&T offers without having drops in bandwidth and outages.
iluvtofly 0 #5 March 10, 2011 This is news? Sorry for all your troubles. I'm sure it's incredibly frustrating. I have always been anti-AT&T and you just helped further that feeling.

theonlyski 8 #10 March 11, 2011 QuoteThe only thing worse than ATT was the only other option for me, the cable company Wendy P. I hate pretty much ANY technical support line that I'm forced to call to fix something. I used to work in a tech support call center, we didn't have scripts, so we actually knew how to fix the problem most the time, or we would ask each other. I hate the whole 'Have you restarted your computer?' after I tell them that its not my problem the cable light is out on the modem... restarting my computer 100 times, won't fix that!"I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message
BillyVance 35 #11 March 11, 2011 Quote The only thing worse than ATT was the only other option for me, the cable company Wendy P. I had my phone service with CenturyTel (which is now called something else) and had my high speed DSL service through them. The video phone was also hooked up through that. What I hated was every time it disconnected, I had to go into the settings and reset them manually. It was a royal pain in the ass! I used to play poker online a lot back then and it killed me to have the service disconnect during a game. Even more so when I was winning! I got so sick of that bullshit that I switched the high speed DSL to my TV cable company, which is a small family-owned local service. I don't get speeds as high as I did with Centurytel, but it doesn't disconnect as often, and when it does, it comes back up on its own, no troubleshooting needed. And in rare cases where that doesn't happen, I just unplug the modem and router, then replug them. Simple as that. diablopilot 2 #13 March 11, 2011 Been with them since 2004, and no problems that they didn't handle. Only once when they were Cingular did I have to escalate an issue up a couple chains of management and I ended up getting what I needed.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. champu 1 #14 March 11, 2011 Quote200 channels of shit and no NASA channel which is free to them. http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/ustream.html Side note: I have had Time Warner for several years now. My most recent experience with them was when I bought my house about a year ago. I scheduled them to come out the day I was moving in. They showed up in their time window and it took the guy about 15 minutes to get everything turned on and working. I haven't had a single problem with my service. I've been with AT&T wireless since 2004 before it was cingular and then back to AT&T wireless again. I've had two situations where I changed my service and the transient bill was screwed up, but I called them and they fixed it. Also, a few days ago on my way back from work, every single traffic light was timed perfectly and I didn't have to stop once (on my bicycle).
kallend 2,151 #15 March 14, 2011 I gave up trying to get AT&T to come up with anything useful; all they wanted was to charge me for a tech to fix the problem of their own making, and/or sell me their TV service which I don't want. The help line was completely useless - in fact it was worse than useless since they wasted over an hour of my time and offered no useful advice. So I spent an hour this evening tracing the wiring in the house, re-wired the junction where the service enters the basement, and voila - it's all working again....
