JohnRich 4 #1 March 8, 2005 This is my latest "whatzit" (what is it?) question. Source: March "Parachutist", 2nd from last page, "Photo Finish" feature picture. The picture is of a double "mind meld" dive. The attached image is a cropped excerpt from that page. The blue circle I've inserted shows something on the top of his reserve flap that looks like a red button with a black loop coming out of it... Whatzit? TALONSKY 0 #2 March 8, 2005 Just another way to stow ones slider, instead of the velcro. I believe the idea is that when the reserve container is open the stow will slide off of the reserve container flap. Kirk

blitzkrieg 0 #4 March 8, 2005 Quote slider keeper??? yup! that's what it is. i used to use that setup until i my buddy made me a velcro one (which IMO is much easier to use). it's just a tent bungee with a stow band attatched to wrap around your slider. JohnRich 4 #8 March 8, 2005 QuoteTarp holder used as a slider keeper. So how is it attached to the reserve flap? Is this advisable to have this gizmo in proximity to where your reserve might need to deploy?
mjosparky 4 #9 March 8, 2005 QuoteQuoteTarp holder used as a slider keeper. So how is it attached to the reserve flap? Is this advisable to have this gizmo in proximity to where your reserve might need to deploy? It is a bungee loop with a wooden or plastic ball on the end. The loop is placed around the reserve inspection flap and the slider is tucked into the loop. I don't think it is a smart idea to tie your slider to your rig but hell what do I know. I have a split slider. SparkyMy idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
Hooknswoop 19 #10 March 8, 2005 Quote So how is it attached to the reserve flap? Open the reserve flap, slide it on, close reserve flap. QuoteIs this advisable to have this gizmo in proximity to where your reserve might need to deploy? Anything can happen, but it is very unlikely for anything to snag on it during a stable reserve deployment. I think the bad point is that in the event of a cutaway after stowing the main slider (entanglement, brake problem, etc), the slider has to come out of the tarp tie down or the whole thing has to slide off the the rewerve flap before you are free of your main canopy. A better design incorporates Velcro to hold the slider and release from the rig in the event of a cutaway. Tarp tiedowns are a bad idea for slider keepers.
