mysky 1 #1 March 7, 2005 I hope this hasn't already made it to this forum as I have searched to see if it has been discussed but could not find anything so please forgive me if I am recycling these questions. Has anyone seen or heard anything about PD's new reserves that are going to have an incredibly small pack volume. Does anyone know if these are actually going to be released any time soon? I heard that a new 143 will pack like a 106 and a 160 will pack like a 113. Anyone have any info on this. Thanks for your help. There are 3 kinds of people in this world, those that know how to count, and those who don't.

billvon 3,107 #4 March 7, 2005 >Does anyone know if these are actually going to be released any time soon? Read the latest Skydiver magazine. It has an article on them. I am looking forward to them, since I generally jump small mains and large reserves - but most manufacturers make rigs for similar sized mains and reserves. It will be nice to be able to fit a Nitro 108 and a PD143 into a container that fits them both well.
Dazzle 0 #5 March 8, 2005 Does the article say when it is due? Skydiving is rather expensive to get in the UK and then you have to wait a week or 2 to get delivery?!?

Praetorian 1 #8 March 8, 2005 Now I'm gonna ask a dumb question (you have been warned) give me one good reason why given the choice between a 109 and a 143 Reserve (or a X reserve and a reserve 60-90% bigger) that will fit your container you would go with the smaller reserve ... for the purpose of this price is not a good reason unles the price dif is 2X or greater and ASSUME they are both PD quality in construction/lifetime/flight profile Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment. Because a) the rig would weigh less; I'd need less drag for bigways b) the rig would be smaller, and thus wouldn't hit me in the top of the butt like the Icon I-4 does. c) the smaller rig would better fit my main (a Nitro 108) without having the closing loop be somewhat loose even at its shortest. Now, a lot of that doesn't apply if manufacturers made containers that fit 100 sq ft mains and 150 sq ft reserves. Most don't. (Just to make it clear, I am assuming you meant a choice between a 143 sq ft reserve that packed up like a 143 sq ft reserve, or one that packed up like a 109 sq ft reserve.) twnsnd 1 #10 March 8, 2005 Also, if by chance you have two canopies out, it is nice to have them of similar size. -We are the Swoophaters. We have travelled back in time to hate on your swoops.-

psychonitro 0 #12 March 9, 2005 yes I believe that's the most important, I read some stuff from PD about tests with 2 out and they saw that when there's too much mismatch in the sizes of the canopies you're likely to run into big troubles!
riggerrob 643 #13 March 9, 2005 My fear is that a jumper will order a container sized for PD's newest reserve, but cheap-out and buy an old PD reserve with the same surface area. Then he will wonder why his rigger went insane struggling to stuff his used reserve into a container that is far too tiny/tight! Will PD ship its new reserves with straight jackets for all the riggers they drive insane?
