turtlespeed 226 #52 March 23, 2011 Quote Quote Habitual? She's testing you. There should be consequences. Make the curfew earlier, grounding, not allowed out next time, something of similar impact. skygypsie 2 #54 March 23, 2011 She's a good kid. She is not habitually late. Mostly late coming home from work, but she usually calls if she has time. I have checked on her to see if she is where she is supposed to. I let it slide - but she got a good talking to. I trust her. ---------------------------------------------------------- My favorite response & best suggestion, yet. Instilling & receiving trust goes a long way, especially with all the stress youth, teens & adults are up against ! You're an excellent dad, & she's a receptive daughter, who'll do well because of it...it's evident
davjohns 1 #55 March 23, 2011 Cell phones have been invented since I was a teen. I usually tell my daughter a time and express it as '9ish' or whatever. If she's going to be more than a few minutes late, she's to call me. She's to be where she says she's going to be. I don't give her any hassel, so she has no reason to lie. She's never given me a problem. Sometimes, I just ask her when she's going to be home. She's never come back with a time that I disagreed with. It works for us.I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

I am lucky, I have scholarships out the ass. January 2010 to December 2010, I had almost $12,000 worth of tuition. $85,000 isn't really that bad in the grand scheme of things, but I have issues with teens expecting mom and dad to foot the college bill. But I am legitimately as to where the little turtle wants to go to school.
maxwellman23 0 #59 March 24, 2011 I can say from recent experience that when I was late my Dad was all talk and no action. I eventually would stay out all night and disregard any restrictions "imposed" on my doings. I realize now that my actions strained our relationship horribly. Ive done much growing up and it isn't a problem now but it got that way because my Dad wasn't willing to take away the car keys.I am ALIVE!
JerryBaumchen 1,468 #60 March 24, 2011 Hi ryoder, Quote Something I learned as a 17yo: When I was a teenager, the municipal curfew on weekends was 2:00 AM or 2:30 AM. We would go park in a car on a dark street for a couple of hours & then head to the 24-hour restaurant for a Coke or whatever. When the cops came in and ask, 'What are you doing out after curfew:' we would reply that we had just got up to go fishing. They would just walk away after that. popsjumper 2 #61 March 24, 2011 I don't remember there being a curfew during my teen years so there was no such thing as "late". It took a while to train my Dad but he finally caught on: "Don't give me a "time" or a "day of the week" rule and I won't be violating it." Dad: Where have you been? Me: Right where I said I would be...at the beach. Dad: I told you to be home by midnight. Me: Look at the clock, Dad. It's 11:30. Dad: But I told you that on Friday and here it is Tuesday! Me: So?My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. Falcon5232, SCS8170, SCSA353, POPS9398, DS239
