skymama 37 #101 March 23, 2011 Three years ago, I sold my house at a great profit, got married and sunk every dollar into a large, gorgeous house on a little lake. My Contractor Dad designed a $75,000 remodel of the house, every room was specifically suited to our needs and it's a custom home in a production neighborhood. Now I'm being forced to sell it; I signed a contract on Monday that will make me lose $40,000. Does it bite? HELL, yes! Have I cried about it, thinking about how that money could have gone to so many other things, had I only known my marriage would break up? Definitely! Am I going to be able to live in anything near the standard that I've been living in the last few years? No fucking way! But, I'm just looking at it as a chapter in my life. I'm going to lose a fortune. Ok, so I have to work hard at being even more frugal for a few years. I'm losing my dream home. Ok, it's really just real estate, I can make a home anywhere. Will I be happier even though I will lose all that money and my big house? You better believe it. Even though you'll lose a lot of money, the choice is still yours. Last I heard, you have a good job and make a lot of money. You'll recoop your losses if you sell. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

You're "unhappy" because your "sexy, sleek, sensual and comforting" home isn't close enough to "all the action" and "spontaneity is an impossibility ." Pfft. I can't even begin to tell you how sorry I feel for you. Yeah, that's EXACTLY what he meant. Anything for a jab, eh. missbrz 0 #104 March 23, 2011 You know that saying "money can't buy happiness"? It's true. Maybe Shah does have money and a great house. That doesn't guarantee his happiness, just a comfortable life. He's not claiming to be starving or poor, just unhappy.

I don't think the location you are living in will have too much to do with how well you "rebuild your life." That will come from inside you, not from the geography that surrounds you. If you like the condo, then stay there. Don't move in hopes that new surroundings will fix things for you. OTOH if you find a place you'd rather live - you like the area better, find a good deal etc - then don't let being underwater stop you. If you wait until the market recovers, then you'll get more for your condo, but you'll also have to pay that much more for the next one.

You have it better than a lot of people. Take a trip to lakewood, nj and visit the tent city there. Bring some food and water because they're really "stuck". Try donating something, the littlest bit might make you realize how much you have. Complain when you have nothing man. Be happy. Smile. Go jump!.......because you can afford it. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

shah269 0 #114 March 24, 2011 Quote Even though you'll lose a lot of money, the choice is still yours.. Yes Sky that's what will have to happen in the not too distant future. It's going to hurt financially and emotionally but you are right. My being down comes from me trying to "work out" a way in which I would not get too hurt or that maybe I could forgo the sale. After all, I like the place. It's just not located where there is much going on. You can't find fish in the Sahara...it helps to be around "active" people and not in a sleepy bedroom community. And that loop of consciousness can feed on it self and just grow. Such that a simple issue can become an overwhelming mountain. And I wasn't sure how to get around it or deal with it. Thus why I asked for advice and received some very good advice. The meditation does seem to work. It clears the mind. Again thank you. (I'm 100% sure someone will find fault with this post and flame away)Life through good thoughts, good words, and good deeds is necessary to ensure happiness and to keep chaos at bay. flyangel2 2 #115 March 24, 2011 QuoteIt's a shame really, I love my "place" I've worked hard to make it mine. From the deep red walls, to the hard wood floors and the black leather couches it is me in every sense of the word. And there is nothing more satisfying than having a girl come over for dinner and have her use adjective such as; sexy, sleek, sensual and comforting to describe the place I've worked so hard to make. It's all material things. IMO, you can't find happiness with "things". I'm not saying to sell everything and live in a dumb. Suck it up, sell the place, and find happiness starting over and rebuild the "perfect" place that will impress the "girls".May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey
normiss 883 #116 March 24, 2011 Selling everything and living in a converted school bus at the local DZ is a much better approach. It's amazing to wake up to the sound of an aircraft, roll over and open the emergency exit door to see a beautiful sunrise. It helped me to appreciate the little things in life again. No, I didn't fully cut away - but I did spend a great deal of time there through my difficulties in life.

Kiyami 0 #119 March 24, 2011 QuoteYes Sky that's what will have to happen in the not too distant future. It's going to hurt financially and emotionally but you are right. With the right mindset it doesn't hurt for long. People here have alluded to you having a good/well paid job and if this is the case I wouldn't let $40k hold me in a location or situation I wasn't happy in. If you've identified that you'd be happier in a different location - just move. Or why not rent your current property for a year and go get a rental in a preferred location to see how it works out? There might be some imbalance in the financials but probably less than $40k
