Jskydiver22 0 #1 March 3, 2005 I was making a jump with my new neptune digital altimiter the other day (4th jump on it, my first hop and pop on it) I did a hop-n-pop from about 4500 and was going to delay down to 3000ft. agl, i kept watching the neptune waiting for it to change (i was counting in my head to make sure i didnt go low though) but it never changed over to freefall mode. Has anyone else had this problem? Does it have to reach a certain speed before it switches over or something? It didnt worry me to much because i know how long of a delay it takes, but it would be nice if it would switch over. --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know--
larsrulz 0 #2 March 3, 2005 I had a similar problem on a borrowed netpune for a night jump. I jumped out and looked down at the neptune and it hadn't turned on the backlight. I just pushed the button that I was told to if it didn't light up like it was supposed to and the light turned and stayed on. I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF
AggieDave 6 #3 March 3, 2005 Sometimes on Hop&Swoops I never get a freefall mode, it stays in airplane mode until I'm under canopy and it goes to canopy mode. However, if you look at the screen you can see the altitude and whats funny is the climb rate counts down quickly and the Neptune states "slow climb."--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Stumpy 284 #4 March 3, 2005 if you have that problem again or from altitude, first change the batteries. mine started doing the same but that fixed it. if that doesn't work, pm lara - their customer service is amazingNever try to eat more than you can lift
blitzkrieg 0 #5 March 4, 2005 first, make sure you have the latest update. the older software does all kinds of dumb stuff. the newest one is pretty solid as far as i've seen to date. i've had what you were saying happen to me a couple times last year, out of a cessna... where there isn't a drastic change in speed, it was taking a bit to register.... simple solution, i made a habit of manually pressing the button when the door opens. if you leave the aircraft in freefall mode, you'll stay in ff mode until deployment. too easy. pilotdave 0 #6 March 4, 2005 Scared myself on a night jump too. Got out on a 2 way and my neptune wasn't lit. I tried to signal to the other guy to not turn points and lemme see his altimeter, but he thought I was keying so he did a 360. At that point I decided I'd survive with no altimeter (he'd surely remind me when it's time to pull, right?), so I went and did my 360. After we redocked I checked again and the light was on. Just takes a few seconds to realize it's in freefall. I've never noticed a delay going into freefall mode after exit, but I really never check my altimeter right after leaving the plane. By the time I do check it, it's always been in freefall mode. I use mine as an audible now anyway. Interestingly, I had the audible work absolutely perfectly after leaving the Cessna at 4500 doing a couple IAD jumps (for the instructor's recurrency). Went off as soon as I left the step (set for 4500 breakoff). Dave

My neptune said it had a full battery still when I changed mine because it started acting funny .. funny being that it gave me an error instead of altitude when I exited the plane on a hop-n-pop It had also given me an error on the ground earlier that day .. Changed the battery and no more problems.. Dont trust the battery indication.. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't. Jskydiver22 0 #8 March 4, 2005 Yeah i have the latest update. But, i think its like you and aggiedave stated, it was out of a cessna and just didnt register because of the slow speed. I will start switching it manually now. Thanks for all the ideas! --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know--
pilotdave 0 #9 March 4, 2005 Have you upgraded to the latest software? They have greatly improved the accuracy of the battery indicator, just in the last version. Dave

Tonto 1 #11 March 4, 2005 Newest version is 2.3.1a I've had no problems with this version at all. Switching to freefall mode prior to exit is prudent - espesially for wingsuit pilots, as you're going to struggle to push buttons with wings... tIt's the year of the Pig. kelpdiver 2 #12 March 4, 2005 Quote Newest version is 2.3.1a There's an "a" release? Different question - I just got a demo unit from them and have found that you can have FF alarms, FF + canopy alarms, but you can't have just canopy alarms. Are the swoop alarms not audible if you use the hand mount? If they are audible, I'm thinking I'd alter the FF alarms to lower altitudes then my pull time as to save the battery power. (and send a RFE to Alti-2) If not, all alarms off.
EDYDO 0 #13 March 5, 2005 Quote Newest version is 2.3.1a HA HA.....No sooner do you get it done before it is obsolete!!!! They replaced mine (Thank You Alti-2) due to a cracked case and the new one has 2.3.1B. It came in today. I was perfectly happy with my old version. Cloggy 1 #14 March 5, 2005 Don't worry about the a or b. It indicates that software version 2.3.1 is installed on hardware revision a or b. (Sure, with 2.3.1b you got the newest of the newest ).
