Favorite places in Asia

Recommended Posts

Tell me about your favorite places in Asia: countries, towns, and sights within. I'm planning a birthday/anniversary trip for Patrick. I think I want to do the southeast peninsula (Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Singapore, Burma, Malaysia), just not sure which countries or where in those countries. Looking at about 2 weeks, and backpacker style. And, yes, I know 2 weeks really isn't enough time to see any of those countries, but I still want to scratch the surface of few.

Thanks, guys! :)

Hopefully its not a surprise... as he is on here more now!

:P

Go to Japan, I hear people around that area have a nice warm & fuzzy feeling lately!

He knows, he has to put in leave for it.

And hardy har har. I will be flying through there next week. I think I'll be okay. It really is sad how disasters drop off the media radar after a week or two though.

I 2nd Chiang Mai.

Chang Mai and Chang Rai are good but they dont hold a candle to Laos. I have been all through South East Asia.
As to the Kohs (islands) down south well they are standard fair resort tourist places i dont give them much value.

Namesake it depends on what you want out of it. A cultural experience or a holiday resort experience.
Shit your that close come visit me in Perth:)

I spent 10 days in Singapore in 2007 … beautiful place … I was bored out of my mind though. All I remember is the Singapore Zoo and great food. Thailand was OK, though if gorgeous sea and beautiful beaches is what you have in mind, I thought the Caribbean is much more pretty … and much closer too. I loved visiting some of the temples there.

Hong Kong was by far my favorite among the places I’ve visited in that part of the World … the view from the Victoria’s Peak was breath taking. Great night life too … a little expensive …

You sound like a girl who likes the finer things in comfort, and not much for getting amongst it:ph34r:. Hong Kong is great for shopping nightlife and well shopping.

Laos is definitely in the plan. We want to do a backpacker-ish type trip. Cheap, not much of a plan other than we will arrive on this day and leave on that day.

And I'm so coming to Perth sometime in the next year. It looks like Patrick is going to be super busy with work for awhile, so I kind of want to travel :$.

If you've not been, check out Japan. If you enjoy skiing too, head up to Furano, Hokkaido, they have great skiing there. Sapporo is a nice city. The tourism will help and you'll be out of the way of recovery efforts on the main island.

The sushi in northern Japan is totally other-worldly too.

It's also the only part of Asia/Pacific rim I've been so I'm not too diverse. I have friends in Singapore who also have a house in Phuket Thailand. Very pretty areas as well.
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

We live in Korea, Southeast Asia is a lot closer for us lol (and cheaper). Singapore Zoo, noted, thank you for the suggestion :)
Hong Kong is definitely on the list for like a four day weekend. We want to do a quick trip to Macau too.

If you enjoyed Hong Kong, you should visit Seoul: a little bit of history and culture, a hell of a lot of shopping, and great nightlife :)

Ooo, thanks for the great information!! Japan is definitely on our list of places we must visit while we live here, but I don't know much in terms of places to visit in Japan (hope that makes sense!).
