FORTRAN IV...I remember standing in line with my stack of cards at 2am patiently waiting my turn at the IBM 1130. The operator would neatly place my cards in the reader and then ....the dreaded "Syntax error line 278"! Then, dejected, trek back to the dorm to fix line 278 and go through the rest of the cards to try to find any other errors. Reschedule another time slot, maybe days later. Repeat. monkycndo 0 #19 April 7, 2011 Andy, I'm not nearly as old as you, and had to learn FORTRAN. At least it was FORTRAN77 that didn't require punchcards. Just compile and fix the mistakes. Luckily our instructor didn't ding us for each time we compiled. And haven't used it since. And to those that think the poll is if you speak American, nope, not the question. It is if you ARE or are not American and how many languages you speak. Sheesh, can't ya read American? 50 donations so far. Give it a try. wmw999 2,588 #21 April 7, 2011 The "American" in the poll refers to nationality, not language; obviously it wasn't clear. I finally figured out what Squeak's comment was about. There was a comment in another thread about damn Americans only speaking one language. A poll listing all of the possible languages would be kinda long.
