supafly 0 #2 March 1, 2005 The coaches out here in Eloy (Flight Club and AZTC) are playing with different types of systems. I can't comment on Rare Dynamic's system in particular, but having air-to-air communication during my coach jumps has definitely helped me pick things up faster. I'm really interested in seeing what type of system ends up becoming popular. --KeithArizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com

tdog 0 #4 March 2, 2005 QuoteAnyone purchased/tried one of these systems yet? Cheers, Al The canopy guys at our DZ have them, and I saw one of them using them to coach a very experienced jumper some freefly. When two of the canopy guys were doing swoops together for a video - the video guy on the ground had a radio and was able to record on the video the communication between the pilots. It was kindof like the NFL films where they have the quarterback's voice on the archive footage... They seem to think it is cool, and I do too. But I have not personally used it. (I wish I had it last time I was in the tunnel because I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the sign language the coach was giving instead of just being able just do what he says.) CanEHdian 0 #5 March 3, 2005 Gee, thanks for the great gear review JP! Care to share your thoughts?Time's flying, and so am I... (69-way, 108-way and 138/142-way Freefly World Records)
Peej 0 #6 March 4, 2005 I did five or six coached jumps with Mike Swanson while i was out at Perris last year and i have got to say that the in air communication thing rocks! It makes such a difference being able to hear the coach as you get out the door. I immediately knew when i wasn't being strong enough with my legs because he'd say stuff like "c'mon, don't be a pussy, get those legs down!" And "no, no, watch me". I personally felt that it really helped my learning curve and i got so much more out the jumps. Plus starting the de-brief under canopy was a lot of fun. I think these systems are going to have an incredible effect on AFF students. Now instead of trying to give someone who's in the midst of sensory overload a hand signal - you can talk to them. Way cool. Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
diablopilot 2 #7 March 4, 2005 QuoteGee, thanks for the great gear review JP! Care to share your thoughts? The system works great. The sound quality and clarity is good for the enviorment it's being used in. The pice is high. Way high. About $1800 for a system that lets one person talk to another, but not 2 way conversation. $2100 for a system that lets you talk to 4 people at once. Is it worth it? depends on the use, and the users. Instructors/Coaches that use it should be sure they don't have verbal diareah, and maintain a profesional vocabulary. I have also witnessed people who stop flying when they are listening. It's a tool, one that works well with the right people in the right situations. $2000 buys alot of coaching and video as well.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Levin 0 #8 March 6, 2005 the price list i have from mike swanson says the cash price for the "1 on 1 coach 1-way system" is $1113.75. The "4-way + coach 1 way system" is $1727.75. The "1 on 1 coach 2 way sytem" is $2227.50. $2000 will buy alot of coaching. About 40 coach jumps in fact. but the communication systems are claimed to last thousands of jumps. next month i intend to get a 1-way coach system for when i'm freefly coaching which makes up the majority of my jumps. i think it will be an invaluable tool. diablopilot 2 #9 March 7, 2005 Cool. Better pricing. For coaches it's a nice tool to have. For the average skydiver? Probably better things to spend on.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
