JohnnyMarko 1 #1 April 24, 2011 So you may or may not know, I'm on a turtle research team. Today, I was out in the field looking for turtles. I came across an interest find. I stumbled across what appeared to be turtles mating. One was a ornate box turtle (Terrepene carolina ornata) and the other was a common box turtle (Terrepene carolina carolina). This is interesting in itself since the ornate box turtle isn't native to Illinois and I have photographic proof that they 1)exist in Illinois and 2) they are (inter)breeding here. Well, I kindly let the male finish and when I went to separate them, (here's where it gets interesting)....they were both male!
