UK Question on full-face helmets

Recommended Posts

I was of the opinion that you need to have 200 jumps to wear a full-face helmet in the UK, yet I have seen pictures of people in Skydive mag that have a full-face helmet on with less than 200 jumps. Does anyone know the regs on this? It seems a daft rule given that they offer superior protection.

They changed that rule a while ago. It is now
3.1.3. FAI ‘B’ Certificate (Red) holders may wear hard protective helmets acceptable to the CCI/Team Leader.3.1.3. FAI ‘B’ Certificate (Red) holders may wear hard protective helmets acceptable to the CCI/Team Leader.

From http://www.bpa.org.uk/opman.htm section 6

I think the original reason was the restricted view but with more experience of full faces they realised that was over restrictive and brought it back to B license (ie 50 jumps)

Not sure of British regulations, but Canadian policy is deliberately vague.
For example, a couple of years ago, a PFF student wanted to buy a full-face helmet. Once he convinced his instructors that he could see and pull all his handles, we let him complete PFF wearing his full-face helmet.

as some one mentioned but didn't diectly address... full face helmets offer more frontal protection than a open face helmet but they can sometimes limit your filed of view to the side,up and down,..... all depends on how your face is made and how the ehlmet fits you if there would be problems... heck i know if i wear a certain kind of goggle my field of view down is impared......

i'mnot a real fan of bpa rules anywyas.... i'm glad i don't jump there.. cuz sometimes eventhough it's "not as safe" i just wana jump withought a helmet on at all.......
