skydiverek 63 #1 February 27, 2005 Can someone describe the 6-grommet slider to me? 4-grommet slider makes sense to me, since we have four "line groups" leading to four risers (just like on a sport canopy), but why 6 grommets? Which lines go into each of 6 grommets???
mark 107 #2 February 27, 2005 A-lines through the front grommets, brake lines through the rear grommets. Just forward of the rear grommets are an additional pair, for the C-lines. The grommets are the same size as the ones you have for your micro-line canopy, so they get crowded when they're used with the stouter tandem lines and double brake lines (two brake lines per side, both pretty stout, too). The hope was that the six-grommet slider would reduce the malfunction rate by reducing the occurrences of tension knots. Mark

I jump a 6-grommet EZ-384 quite often...as described to me "RWS" (read: the guy with the beard) stated once that "if you have less then desirable packing, you should get a 4-grommet slider." I also got to experience that first hand, with one very wicked lineover from the seperated control lines due to a packer not keeping the lines in the middle during a packjob.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." skydiverton 0 #4 February 28, 2005 My experience is that the toggle pressure on a 6-grommet tandem canopy (EZ) is a little lower because the bulky tandem-steeringlines can run smoother (less friction) Although you can also consider a tandemcanopy with a lower togglepressure like the Icarus, Sigma of BT80 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
riggerrob 643 #5 February 28, 2005 We get better results with 6-grommet sliders on our SET-400 canopies. They have 4 regular-sized #8 grommets for the A,B,C and D lines, plus a pair of #5 grommets hanging off the rear corners. Only the steering lines go through the rear grommets. Isolating the steering lines reduces friction when you steer. It also reduces whining from the less muscular TIs. Hee! Hee!
