JohnnyMarko 1 #1 May 7, 2011 So I'm homeless right now, couch hoping for a bit, and the current room I'm occupying only has the older outlets without the third grounding prong. Is it absolutely mental to break off the grounding prong from a power strip and plug it in?
ryoder 1,590 #2 May 7, 2011 Don't mangle the cords. Just go to the hw store and buy adapters."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones.

That third prong isn't as much about not burning down the house as it is intended to prevent you from turning your cojones into nicely roasted chestnuts while you're using anything plugged in without a ground. This is from my Facebook page, for those of you who aren't my friends Johnny: Quote I win the Darwin award for the day. I couldn't unplug my computer charger cause my hands we're wet and I could only pull the plug about halfway out. Me being the genius I am tried to get a better grip by grabbing from the bottom and inadvertently touched the prongs. Needless to say, I completed the circuit and just about stopped my heart. Thanks for making coffee, Kevin, but I'm pretty wired now (ha, pun intended) As you can see, I'm an electricity wizard.

JohnMitchell 16 #15 May 8, 2011 A lot depends on what you're plugging into the strip. If it's all two-prong stuff, it doesn't matter. If it's 3 prong stuff, well, remember you're not grounded (although you can convert the plugs.

Mostly 2 prong. 3 prong includes my Mac charger (that I'm using right now ) and a mini-fridge
