I like hearing all their experts' opinions. :D

According to how the program was put together, we're all disturbed for participating in an extreme sport! :S

So long as it's addictive. I can't stand this new 'word' addicting. Aarrrggh!

Sorry, mildly off-topic but I just had to get that off my chest.

ad·dict (-dkt)
tr.v. ad·dict·ed, ad·dict·ing, ad·dicts
1. To cause to become physiologically or psychologically dependent on a habit-forming substance: The thief was addicted to cocaine.
2. To occupy (oneself) with or involve (oneself) in something habitually or compulsively: The child was addicted to video games.

Addictive is an adjective, while addicting is its participle form. If you say something like "BASE jumping is addicting," or "BASE jumping is addictive," both are correct.

Wow, who knew? Not me, apparently. Thanks, pyrotech.

I'm not going to back down completely, though. I think 'addicting' is at best redundant. 'Addictive' is a perfectly good word, and it sounds much nicer - at least to my ears.

Do Aussies even have dictionaries? It seems as though the pronunciations of words are all off. ;)

Sorta like how you guys pronounce "beer" as "Fosters." I know it's true because of American television.

MikeJD, I tend to use 'addicting' as the participle adjective, such as "BASE jumping is addicting." I use 'addictive' as a non-participle adjective, such as "BASE jumping is an addictive sport."

An Aussie is visiting London where an American tourist looking for directions mistakes him for a local and asks, "Say. Do you know the way to Cockfosters?"

"Don't know, mate," the Aussie answers. "Drink it warm, I suppose."

BS. If it's on American television, it has to be true. Besides, I can't really take your country seriously. Most of the animals / insects there could eat me, and I'm terrified of the drop bears. :D

Sorry, but "addicting" follows basic usage rules for forming adjectives. It's as valid as "addictive", but it appears to be "foreign" to your ears.:P:D

Besides, a linguist will tell you there is no "right and wrong" in any language, but merely "accepted usage." So, if it's in the dictionary, SUICC. :D

:D Funnily enough I studied English at college, and that really drove home the fact that language is a fluid thing - and in theory should be improving, as with any evolutionary process. So I was quite the liberal then.

But I'm old and intolerant now. :P

Oh yes, quite fluid, but there's something that drives it in the direction of improving? That's quite interesting. :)
