It's the end of an era, like it or loath it, Catalonia is about to ban Bull fighting.... when will the rest of Spain follow suit?

Not as long as "The Sun Also Rises" stays in print.

Also in rodeos they don't get to dress up like Liberace.

Although many of the younger generation don't "get it", I do.

i know my opinion isn't popular, but i've been to a full corrida and i actually really enjoyed it. it was artistic and emotional and I understand its appeal. Also, read "Death in the Afternoon" by hemingway for a real understanding of how bullfighting is pretty much intertwined with the soul of Spain.

I know that sounds weirdly emotional and poetic, but it's true. Having been there and seen it, i can see both sides, but i can't see it being banned any time soon.

I agree but it is being banned ... starting in Catalonia.

Wow! Seems strange they would ban it. Bull fighting has been such an historic part of Spain's culture.
Don't tell me... PETA got to them!?

I will give the "Rhonda Style" some grudging respect (one man, a cape, a sword vs one bull), but will not lament the passing of the ritual of the man on the horse taunting the beast while his friends repeatedly stab and wear down his prey.

or as long as Sanfermines is the most popular party in Europe (think Mardi Gras for a week straight...I lasted a day and a half :S). Yeah, i just can't ever see Nevarra, at least, banning bullfighting. From a purely cynical, economic standpoint, they make so much tourist money during that one week in July that they would fight it tooth and nail.

And don't even get me going on the basque nationalist implications.
