SansSuit 1 #1 June 2, 2011 Hiya- I'm hosting a non-skydiving site that contains a list of email addresses. Someone suggested that I add a link to the following web site http://officeofstrategicinfluence.com/spam/. I've not heard of this before. Is this a legit strategy? Or is it the moral equivalent of using postage paid reply to mail a brick back to the sender?Peace, -Dawson. http://www.SansSuit.com The Society for the Advancement of Naked Skydiving

And it's a pretty good idea to spam their own site by telling people they are going to help "kill spam." The strategy is basically what you said; the moral equivalent of using postage paid to mail a brick back to the sender, only less effective. If you have had success in sending bulk items back to companies that send you junk mail (meaning, they stopped sending it to you), then I would urge you to follow this strategy. Other than that, they have found a clever way to get their site to the top of search engines to grab a bit of ad revenue by getting links from other sites. On another note, you could fight spam bots in a more effective way by altering your .htaccess file to check for user agents and IP addresses of known bots, and bots you see crawling your site. I tend to also encrypt email addresses by displaying them through javascript using obfuscation. For example, rather than putting a link to "mailto:email@address.com", set it up in a script:
