GTAVercetti 0 #1 February 21, 2005 I used one of these on my scotchguarded rig and it worked pretty well to get out dirt. Basically, this thing is a spong of melamine foam which cleans without the use of detergent; just a little water. It is mainly used to get crayon or marker or whatever off walls and such but it says it can also be used for sneakers and car interiors so I tried it lightly on my rig and it worked. I got two for $1.78 at Wal-Mart.Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
mjosparky 4 #2 February 22, 2005 What type of chemicals are in it? What will your rig look ike in a few week when the chemicals start to react to UV and or dust? Just curious. SparkyMy idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
GTAVercetti 0 #3 February 22, 2005 QuoteWhat type of chemicals are in it? What will your rig look ike in a few week when the chemicals start to react to UV and or dust? Just curious. Sparky There are no chemicals. It is simply a piece of special foam that is porous and can break up the dirt from inbetween the fibers. I was worried that it would "scratch" the cordura, but it did not. My rig looks fine! Here is info about it Melamine info and a FAQ: Melamine FAQ If you look on epinions.com and search for Mr Clean Magic Marker, you will see that people are raving about them. I don't know how they would work for deep stains in a rig, but for light dirt and marks, they seem to work the trick without any damage. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. slotperfect 7 #4 February 22, 2005 I have not tried them on parachute gear, but I can tell you it will take marks of painted walls that absolutely would not come all the way out no matter how much I scrubbed. My wife found them and gave them a try - you can remove scuff marks, etc without even trying hard.Arrive Safely John

skymama 37 #8 February 22, 2005 Wow, I never thought of using it on my rig but I do use them at home. They are awesome on vinyl floors and painted walls like others said and also got out marks that no other product would on my floor. riggerrob 643 #9 February 22, 2005 Wow! Melamine sounds like an awesome cleaner. Let's us it on Cordura (container fabric) for a few years before we try it on F-111 (reserve canopy fabric).
GTAVercetti 0 #10 February 22, 2005 QuoteWow! Melamine sounds like an awesome cleaner. Let's us it on Cordura (container fabric) for a few years before we try it on F-111 (reserve canopy fabric). Yeah, from the sound of it, it would appear to not be wise to use on f-111. The package warns to test a small area of counters or other surfaces for scratching. There are also reviews that say too much pressure caused it to remove wall paint....probably not good for F-111! But I defintely see dirt on the sponge I used for my rig so I think I will use it for light dirt, shout wipes for heavier bits, and a good ole full on wash if I fall right into a mudpit. Cloggy 1 #12 February 25, 2005 Hmm, I'd be very cautious with this. Melamine. That's the stuff they make plates and mugs of and coat fiberboard with.. Very hard and tough resin. I don't know how this melamine sponge works or what it's physical characteristics are in sponge form, but I somehow suspect that it is rather abrasive, with a zillion microscopic needles scraping the dirt out of the pores of your dirty wall, rig etc. Works very well, but I wonder what microscopic damage there is, and what the 'needles' do when worked into the fabric and what damage they can do over time? peterk 0 #13 February 25, 2005 Anyone simply ScotchGuard their rigs when they get them, and then grass stains and everything else comes out like magic with little effort?--------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
GTAVercetti 0 #14 February 27, 2005 QuoteAnyone simply ScotchGuard their rigs when they get them, and then grass stains and everything else comes out like magic with little effort? As I said in my first post, my rig IS scotchguarded, and the foam, with very light pressure, takes out marks. As for sratching the rig, that is why I use light pressure. But the box says it can be used on car interiors and shoes. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
