Heatmiser 0 #1 June 18, 2011 Sometimes I gotta share my "Snoopy Dance" moments with the class. I am the owner of a 42" Sony Rear Projection LCD HDTV, that I bought in Dec. 2005. I paid around 1800 for it at the time, which was a mid-priced tv. I noticed it developing a very slight green haze in the center of the tv, and incorrectly assumed that the lamp was failing. Since the lamp is a consumer friendly replacement part, I ordered another. 90 dollars and 2 weeks later, I of course find out that this is NOT the case. The new lamp does not correct the problem, and quite possibly exacerbates the issue. What does any red-blooded american do nowadays when we can't figure something out, you say? GOOGLE! I begin searching for other Sony customers that may have dealt with the same problem. Well, lo and behold, apparently alot of Sony's customers have had this issue. Turn's out, Sony had sold some 2 BILLION dollars of these types of Tv's over the years, and then quietly backed out of the rear projection lcd market. Long story a little shorter, due to a couple of class action lawsuits involving false advertising claims involving how long these tv's should last, and knowingly installing faulty color blocks, Sony set up an exchange program. I called Sony, on the off chance that my 6 year old t.v. might be covered under this plan. Sony promptly came back with offers to purchase one of three different tv's, at severely discounted prices. The t.v. I chose, A Sony Bravia KDL55EX710, is a 1700 dollar t.v. My price, 450.00, plus local state tax. Just under 500.00. So in recap, I got to use my 1800 dollar t.v. for 6 years, and I get a 1200 dollar credit towards a much bigger and better technology t.v., and I don't even have to give back the old one!
