sight_burner 0 #1 February 18, 2005 Well i'm still trying to get an idea of the marketing aspect behind this great sport. One question that has pinned me to the wall is how much can or do gear dealers make if any and how much commission is involved or is dealing in this industry just a means on getting a good discount on gear. Andrew. I don't care about fame I just want people to know my name qote ( Andrew Cebuhar) the thread is dead
diablopilot 2 #2 February 18, 2005 On a complete rig? $500 would be about the max. Often much lower.....---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
jumperconway 0 #3 February 18, 2005 I would guess very little. I would think 40-50% off list differing from manufacturer. If they give you 25-35% off, there isnt a big profit left.
skybytch 273 #4 February 18, 2005 QuoteI would think 40-50% off list differing from manufacturer. You'd be wrong. Average dealer discount is quite a bit less than that. The profit margins available in selling skydiving equipment are very, very slim, especially considering the cost of the gear. It's not something you get into if you're hoping to get rich... jumperconway 0 #8 February 18, 2005 Arlo, I have been corrected by JP. I was basing that on what Precision was offering to sell the Xaos' for when they first came out at 50% off and some team deals I have heard being done in the 40% range.

Let's just say, that teams might get better discounts than dealers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

BlindBrick 0 #11 February 18, 2005 I've seen a former dealer's invoices before. He was gettign less than a 35% discount on mains and a ~ 30% discount on containers. Now factor in that ~25 percent off is the going deal right now and how few sales are made and you realize that this is another area of the sport you get into for love instead of money. -Blind"If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it." riggerrob 643 #12 February 18, 2005 Last thing I heard, Square One was breaking even on harness sales and making all their profit off T-shirts. Last month - when we toured the Relative Workshop - as we strolled past embroidery machines, Bill Booth said they were the most profitable machines in the whole factory. "There is no money in selling stock harnesses. All the profit is in embroidery and shiny stainless steel hardware." I suspect that my boss barely beaks even on selling used gear, preferring to find his profit in selling jump tickets.
