JerryBaumchen 1,451 #3 July 6, 2011 Hi bert, The first ground launching that I know took place in the NE USA using ParaCommanders & ski slopes. JerryBaumchen
bertusgeert 1 #4 July 6, 2011 yeah obviously this is a joke not actually the beginning, but definitely old. So old they haven't even thought of sitting on planks yet. From what I've heard early inspiration for paragliding came from mountaineers looking for a quick way down the slopes in the alps. Do they have slopes in the NE steep enough for the glideslope of a paracommander?! --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei! JerryBaumchen 1,451 #5 July 6, 2011 Hi bert, I'm from the west coast, so do not really know. The stories at the time said that they would glide down the slope just 'slightly touching the ground.' JerryBaumchen PS) I do believe that the very first person to ground launch a ram-air was Ted Strong on a canopy that he built himself. And it was on the NE USA ski slopes.
