QuoteSad to hear about this! My mother lives close to there.

Back about 30 to 40 years ago... they used to move their "problem bears" up to the far NE Corner of Washington State to the Salmo Wilderness Area ( Salmo Roadless area at the time) which is very near the old Sullivan Lake Training Area that the USAF Survival School used for Instructor Training.
Shall we say... your bear discipline is very very important when hiking, camping or huckleberry picking in that area.
When I was a little girl.. I watched my mother move the fastest she ever moved in her life... when she managed to go all kinds of stupid and get between a mother bear and its cubs to take pictures of the cute little bears in the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. The mother bear here... was doing what her instincts dictated.. to protect her young.

I'm very glad to hear that they are not going to try and capture or kill the bear. Its a tragedy that someone was killed, but momma bear was just being momma bear.

Just make sure he doesn't have an iron plate covering his ass before you hug him.

Thank You!
