kelpdiver 2 #2 February 15, 2005 I did that for a used Cypres and got a few responses, but frankly they were from the ones with (imo) unreasonable prices in mind. But that was in a real lull for supply- someone else I knew did much better just a couple months earlier. Can't really hurt you though, so why not try? freakflyer9999 1 #3 February 15, 2005 I posted a "wanted" ad for a jumpsuit a few weeks ago. I had a response within a day for a jumpsuit that I ended up buying.
indyz 1 #4 February 15, 2005 It can't hurt. I posted a want ad when I was looking for a somewhat unusual model of canopy. Found one within a few days.
DrewEckhardt 0 #5 February 15, 2005 QuoteOK, i'm searching for my first rig, i've noticed the folks that put WANTED notices in the classified and am curious how well it works? I wanted a rig to stick a large parachute in for accuracy. No responses to "WANTED" ads until they ran out (60 days?) . The first time I did a manual search and found two useful ads; second time turned up four of which one is now on a UPS truck. An ad couldn't hurt, although you probably get better results from something easier to match like "protrack" and not 190 pounds/5'10, need rig with 210 main/reserve. Rigs are especially bad - a lot of ads don't include container (should that fit fit a 135 or 230?) or harness sizes (I wear a harness about six inches longer than a small woman). A few include serial numbers which you can reference with the manufacturer - this is a lot better.
mr2mk1g 10 #6 February 15, 2005 Couldn't hurt, but nothing is a substitute for a good manual search of the listings. If you're desperate abandon the search features. As good as they are, people mis-spell, mis-cite and generally screw up listings... your human eye will find them, searches don't. And please God, if you post a Wanted Add, make it obviously a Wanted Add - put "WANTED" in the actual title... few things annoy me like stupid people who post adds which only pay a passing comment to "wanted" somewhere in the main body text, if at all. I get pissed off when I find an add that reads exactly what I'm looking for at a nice cheap price, only to have my hopes dashed after I've clicked on the link and waited for the page to load and find, somewhere down the bottom of the add, a little something which kinda just tipps me off to the fact the poster only wants the bargain canopy and isn't actually selling one. First, thanks for everyones replies and votes! Ok, i totally know what you mean about searches as you really limit the number of ads that you see due to the variations of classified postings and I have been browsing for a while. my problem mainly is that usually 1 out of every 5 people I contact about a rig or main or whatever has already sold the damn merchandise... I totally agree with you about making it clear that you are WANTING something cause that pisses me off too.... I'll probably just put a "WANTED" ad up in the next week or two to see what kind of results I get. Thanks again everyone!!
MWGemini 0 #8 February 16, 2005 I've posted several ads looking for a Titanium Altimaster, which was a limited run made in 1999 I think. I never received a single response. That item is probably fairly rare, however, so it doesn't particularly surprise me. YOU wouldn't happen to be selling one, would you? Mike

NWFlyer 2 #12 March 11, 2005 Worked quite well for me to find a main (in fact it was this post that inspired me to try it). Had two responses within a couple of days and ended up buying from one of them."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
