I remember him riding with the collar bone, proper hardcore - though of course he did have some... assistance And Hoogerland does have a lot of stitches! (NSFW) Saw the KoM podium presentation again today, the guy can barely walkSo glad the race is finally getting to the mountains tomorrow though. It was a nice idea for the organisers to put in some tricky classic style stages early on to keep the favourites on alert, but GC wise it's thrown up nothing interesting except for crashes and after 12 days it's really started to feel like so much dicking about. jakee 1,594 #33 July 13, 2011 Quote Cav on the sprint Cav finally for green this year? 16 point lead now (20 from Gilbert), basically guaranteed another 90 from 2 more stage wins, and intermediate sprint points before the climbing starts in most of the mountain stages means he could be competing for those too. jakee 1,594 #34 July 20, 2011 Beautiful stage today (stage 17), if you haven't watched it make sure you catch the highlights. Absolutely fantastic parcours making for some really fun racing. A 46 kilometer high speed flowing mountain descent from Sestrieres (it's gone onto my list), and then the final Cat 2 of Pramartino is a gorgeous little twisting country road climbing up through the woods followed by a crazy technical descent to the finish line. So much action in the last 20km the director barely knew which camera to cut to. Brilliant Do you want to have an ideagasm?
jakee 1,594 #35 July 21, 2011 Huge attack by one rider on the Izoard with Galibier still to come! Old Skool death or glory risk taking in the GC, haven't seen that for years. I'm not reading the post someone made for today... Tivo of the race tonight. Today should be EPIC. Unless it's not (which would be disappointing everyone).... 3 HC climbs with a finish on the Galibier... It better be epic, other I'll be pissed off tonight! Contador seems really strong. I would have liked to shee the Shlecks more aggressive, but they cant seem to get rid of that pesky australian... But, I'll cheer for TV until he loses yellow. It's pretty amazing that he's been able to keep it until at least today! Allez! PS: fat boy award definitely goes to Thor. WTF dude? You're not supposed t win in the mountains!!!!!!! Did anyone else catch the speed differential he clocked on the descent of the stage he won: the rest of Garmin topped at 82 km/h. He reached 112 km/h Remster

Yeah, the way they rode the Pyrenees was pretty underwhelming, but these days I guess no-one tries to win a Tour until the 3rd week. (Favourite bit of punditry so far "Everyone's crediting Andy Schleck with an attack there, but really he just rode to the front while looking backwards") Quote PS: fat boy award definitely goes to Thor. He's realised he can't really contest a classic group sprint anymore, so he's just decided to win a different way and gone out and done it twice! (And that makes 4 stage wins each for Norway and the Isle of Man. Remster 30 #38 July 21, 2011 Quote the 'heartlands' of cycling need to get their acts together Oh.. They do. They've been pretty aggressive: there's always a few FDJ, Cofidis, Euskatel and Movistar frenchy and spaniard riders in the breakaways... But they just cant stay away all the way, or get beaten by a damm fat Norgie... This being said, a Frenchman's been in yellow for 8 days now. That aint bad. And although I'd love him, or a Schleck to win in Paris, a Spaniard will probably wear yellow at Les Champs Elysees.Remster

It really is anyone's race (well, among 3-4 guys anyway) now. That TT on Saturday will play well into Cadel's race!Remster
dirtbox 0 #41 July 23, 2011 Aussie Aussie Aussie ... Hoorah Cadel. Best tour int he last 10 years! Props to George and the other BMC riders but Cadel really won this tour on his own - a genuine hardman who genuinly deserved it.
Remster 30 #42 July 25, 2011 mmm.. I donno. I felt kinda disappointed in the result. Cadel did work _very_ hard to claw back some time on Le Galibier, but he didnt ride a memorable tour IMO. It's not the 1st time a tour is won without winning a single stage, but he also never really attacked at any point in the race. Now, if only Andy can but some flesh on them bones and bulk up a bit to ride a better TT..... Remster
jakee 1,594 #43 July 25, 2011 Quote It's not the 1st time a tour is won without winning a single stage, Uh, it's actually not a time that the tour is won without a single stage victory. It might have been 2 1/2 weeks ago but the Mur-de-Bretagne still countsListen, I'm not in any way an Evans fan, but he was consistently aggressive in the first week on the punchy uphill finishes (ended up 4th in points race FWIW), aggressive again on the technical downhill finishes in week 2 (picked up at least a minute on Andy there, I think) and his chase on the Galibier really was the best I've seen him ride, and he didn't expect anyone else to do it for him. I'm never really happy to see the Tour decided in the TT, but I'll grit my teeth and say he did deserve it this year. Also, after I had a dig at the French a few posts ago, this Rolland kid gets the all clear to race for himself after a week of knocking his bollocks out for Voeckler and immediately climbs away to an Alpe D'Huez win and the white jersey. Be nice to see if he could develop into a real home contender for the GC in a few years. Quote Now, if only Andy can but some flesh on them bones and bulk up a bit to ride a better TT... Bulk up on the TT and man up on the downhills. He must spend half his life on mountain roads, he should be able to learn how to hit an apex!Do you want to have an ideagasm? jakee 1,594 #45 July 25, 2011 QuoteI'm just underwhelmed. I was... until the alps started. The final week was brilliant. For me that made up for the early lack of GC action - partly due to the organisers waiting sooo long to reach the high mountains, and partly due to none of the top riders seeming to be on any kind of form at the start of the race. Understandable for Contador (madness to ride the Giro with a route like that - got to assume the team were hedging their bets on him not being in the tour at all...) but the Schlecks really didn't seem to have any edge either. I'm sure they got their prep wrong somehow, hope they figure it out for next year.Do you want to have an ideagasm?
