Winter Bike Project . . .

Recommended Posts

My morning,Spent working on my wifes Knuckle...it is a Altinator /Genorator motor I built back in the 80's from parts I had laying around... It is actually a 1974 left case mated to a 1947 right case..No numbers, and perfectly legal!

The generator houses her ignition coil....the electrics run off the altinator...only took a touch of machining to make it work!

Anyway , my Problem is I need "this" to come off...

But I Don't have a puller (I swear I did have, but can;t find it)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v400/onekick/American%20Dead/019.jpg

So....out comes the cardboard...trace the holes...

Add a drill press, and turn this....(clutch hub puller)

Into this

Plus 3 case bolts, and Walla ,(veola?) turned into a rotor puller.....

OK, a few off the wall spacers too! (Nuts, sockets, washers)

On my Evo that cover houses the alternator so you can pull it off with your hands. I had Gennie Shovel back in the day and they are sometimes a PITA. Those generators could, and would, go bad just sitting on a shelf . . .

The new replacement I bought, (laying on the ground) won;t likely ever need a puller, BUT , it has me nervous, seems like a lot of wieght spinning on sooo little metal, the old oen had a 1/4 of shaft connecting, the new one, less than a 16nth.....

I've got about 50 clandestine miles on her now and so far nothing has fallen off, LOL . . .

I also edited the first ride vid and added some cheesy music but watch it quick as YouTube will probably pull the tunes . . .

If you have decent speakers CRANK IT UP !!!

I was just about to post "This needs...", then the music came on. Perfect!:D

Now all you need is the buckskin jacket, and the Aussie bush hat.

"Big Smile" means much more to anyone that has met you, because you have the most infecteous smile of anyone I have ever met!

I've been pondering that HD Go Pro. I might just go for it.

After all, when I get arrested for raising hell, it should be in HD, right?

NickD :)

Even Skykid has a Go Pro...amazing little camera's!

BTW, how did you do "credits" for the music? I bet that keeps it from being pulled! Skykid has lost about half of the tunes to his video's on youtube...maybe that woudl stop that from happening!

John Kay is, I think, the only original member of Steppenwolf still around and if there was an easy Paypal way to send him five bucks for my one time use of the song, I would.

But there are so many thirty year punks in suits involved in that music now (none of which they created or could come anywhere near understanding) that they can all go F themselves. Let 'em pull it . . .

Besides Steppenwolf stole their name from a Herman Hesse book and never paid him for that . . .

I ordered the Go Pro HD yesterday! I even sprung for the two day shipping! I'll let you all know what I think after I get to play with it . . .

From all I've seen and read it's a pretty cool little POV rig.

It was this "fanman" guy's vid that convinced me:

A competitor to the Go Pro HD is the Vholdr CountourHD.
It's more streamlined shape makes it more practical for attaching to the side or top of a helmet.
I just tried it out Sunday on a cycling descent of Flagstaff Mountain.
Unfortunately, I underestimated how much my helmet is tipped downward in a fast descent, so I got 360MB of video of Flagstaff Road, and I mean just the pavement in front of the bike.[:/]
I've remounted the camera and will give it another shot tonight.

Yes the Vholdr CountourHD comes up in every thread I see comparing these cameras.

I guess, preference wise, it's a Wonderhog vs Racer kinda thing (showing my age!) . . .

NickD :)

I think it depends on where/how you plan to mount it.
And if you have a CountourHD on your helmet, you can brag that you have frickin' laser beams attached to your head.;)

is the contour waterproof for scuba? the Go pro is!

I suspect you know the answer is "No".
(Waterproof case is available: http://vholdr.com/contourhd/accessories).
But I also paid only $200 for it at REI, (Memorial Day sale).

Last year I was playing with an ATC2K:
Pluses:
- A little over $100
- Waterproof.
- 3 selectable resolutions.
- 2 selectable frame rates.
- On the lowest resolution & frame rate, it could record all day on a pair of AA batteries and a 2GB flash card.
Minus:
- Rolling shutter was *lousy* for situations where the camera is moving.
It could still be useful for surveillance purposes.
