hcsvader 1 #29 August 26, 2011 Got my test results today. Scored 8 in listening, 9 in reading, 9 in speaking and 7 in writing. all the score are out of a possible 9. The problem is that to apply for an unrestricted skilled worker visa I had to score a minimum of 8 in each category to get the points need for that visa. My options now are to seek state sponsorship to gain the extra points needed for a provisional visa. State sponsorship requires me to live and work within a certain state for 2 years, after that time I can apply for the permanent resident visa that I am trying to get now. Currently the only state offering sponsorship for my trade is Western Australia. Im not sure how I feel about being bound to living in one place for 2 years. The actual terms of the provisional visa are that it's a 3 years visa. I have to maintain residency for 2 years and employment for 1 year. Once I meet those requirements I am able to apply for permanent residency which I believe will cost an additional $3000. I have to look into it some more to be sure. My other option is to retake the english test, Maybe take an ESL course to prepair for the test. I know it sounds a little rediculous, being a native speaker, but there are courses designed for non native speakers to help them pass this test. Retaking the test will cost $180 and I will have to look into the cost of courses..... The really fucked up part is that I will have to do this in Malaysia... Yeah... Im going to Malaysia for 3 months at the end of september as my current visa in australia will expire. So I think to cover all my bases I will apply for state sponsorship, (I have 3 months to apply for a provisional visa once I get sponsorship.) Then go to Malaysia and learn english... and hope to get a better mark next time... Fuck, my life is ridiculous.... but it sure ain't boring.Have you seen my pants? it"s a rough life, Livin' the dream >:)

hcsvader 1 #32 August 27, 2011 Ya, I agree my writing skills could use some improvement. The test requires you to write 2 essays in 1 hour. One 150 word essay that is a letter. one 250 word essay that is arguing for, or against a topic. I haven't gotten the full score report yet. It should have some more detailed infrmation on the areas I need to work on. I am really tempted to just take the state sponsorship route. It is a solid pathway to permanent residency and eventually Australian citizenship. There are some excellent work opportunities available for me in Western Australia. I really wish I had made it over to that side of the country to check it out as I think it would make this decision easier. I am reluctant to agree to live somewhere for 2 years when I haven't been there... But hey, The seem to put up with Squeak living there so I guess I should be alright. I really want that skilled independent visa. It is an unrestricted 5 year pathway to citizenship. So I think it will really be worth my time to study english and retake the test. The idea of going to Malaysia and studying english in Kuala Lumpur has got to be the funniest plan I have EVER had in life. I think I am going to do it just so I can tell the story of how I got Australian citizenship. "I had to go to Malaysia and take an english language course in order to qualify for australian residency" It would also be a very interesting cultural experience, my plan was just to go there and drink cheap beer and smash cheap hookers but I think attending a local college would probably be a more fulfilling cultural experience (and I can still drink cheap beer and smash cheap hookers ) I'm not going to get into the rest of my travel and immigration plans, I have a million different ideas of how to spend the next few years and 3 back up plans for each of those. It's going to be an interesting journey, or as I called it this morning while chatting with my Dad, "my life is a clusterfuckingcatastrophy with some very pleasant side effects" Have you seen my pants? it"s a rough life, Livin' the dream >:)
Andy9o8 2 #33 August 27, 2011 Come to Speaker's Corner. 40% of those would fail the IELTS, and English is nominally their native language. All visa applications granted. Oh - and we don't allow employment off-visa, unless you're a chick or a white guy working at a DZ, in which case it's OK.
hcsvader 1 #34 August 28, 2011 So I've decided to go ahead and just do the state sponsorship in Western Australia. After looking into the work opportunities there ans speaking with a few mates who live out there it seems like a really good option. There are obscenely well paying jobs and the quality of life seems to be pretty damn good.Have you seen my pants? it"s a rough life, Livin' the dream >:)
hcsvader 1 #35 August 28, 2011 Arrrgggg... Cant make up my mind... Been looking into some more english courses at universities in Malaysia. virgin-burner 1 #36 August 31, 2011 do the 3 months course, i scored an "exceptional" in all areas for my english certificate.. it mostly wins or fails with the teachers too, but if you dont only do cheap beers and hookers and study reasonably.. you should be good to go! “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. hcsvader 1 #37 August 31, 2011 Thats the plan. It a course with the British Counsel. It is a preperation course for the IELTS exam. I scored 9,9,8,7 on my last test so I only really need to improve my writing and listening skills but Im sure it wont hurt to brush up on the other skills as well. I am also really excited about the cultural learning I will be able to by actually attending a course with locals in kuala lumpur. It will definitely be different than hanging out getting drunk with other backpackers all the time.Have you seen my pants? it"s a rough life, Livin' the dream >:)
