skydiverek 63 #1 February 7, 2005 Riggers only please - do you pack your OWN reserve? I am asking cause I know some riggers who do not like to take their own fate in their hands, and have their friend (rigger) pack their reserve. So, the case that I saw was that Rigger A packs Rigger's B reserve, and Rigger B packs Rigger's A reserve (they do not charge each other). It's not that they lack skills, but simply prefer "someone else" do it. Do you pack your own reserve, or do you feel uncomfortable packing your OWN reserve and have someone else do it??? skygod7777 0 #3 February 7, 2005 that seams a little weird to me, if you can't trust yourself to save yourself, how can you expect to save someone else?? i don't know, that's just my opinion on it though. later
darkwing 5 #4 February 7, 2005 You need more options. I sometimes let riggers-in-training pack my reserve. Also, if I am visiting another DZ and need a pack job I might have the local rigger pack my reserve. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
beezyshaw 0 #5 February 7, 2005 It's one thing to be a dentist, and go to your friend for a filling; you have to use someone else. But a rigger not packing his own rig? It's beyond my comprehension, really. Edit: I guess the exception is the rigger who doesn't remain current or feel confident in doing the pack job; but if you mean active current riggers not packing for themselves my original point stands. nicknitro71 0 #7 February 7, 2005 Of course I do! It would look really funny to have another rigger packing my own stuff: "Hey you're good packing somebody else's shit but not your own one?" Same goes for BASE. I like packing my own stuff. I am not picky for main canopies...Memento Audere Semper

billvon 3,107 #9 February 7, 2005 I'm not a rigger but I often pack my own reserve. It would sure seem silly to pack my own BASE rig but not my own reserve.

brits17 0 #12 February 7, 2005 Quote Stay far away from both Rigger A and Rigger B. But I'M Rigger B And yes, I've always packed my own reserve, ever since I owned an auxilary parachute. hookitt 1 #13 February 7, 2005 This story seems far-fetched but if i were to have someone pack mine, it would be Rigger B brits17 Why in the world would another rigger have someone else pack there reserve? I don't believe it if they are current. I know of one rigger who is a master at rounds and old equipment but knows very little about squares. He is/was the only person I know of that didn't pack his own square j(at the request of another rigger). He was current at the time. If a rigger hasn't packed in 10 years or something, then I can see it. Would I jump a rig with other riggers reserve pack job? absolutlely, would they pack mine... no. I've packed for one rigger in my entire rigging carreer. I borrowed his rig and ended up using the reserve. He was way to tired to pack it up for the next day's jumping so he let me do it.My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... sunshine 2 #14 February 8, 2005 That seems very strange. Of course i pack my own reserve. I know it's done right if i do it myself. However, my current reserve pack was done by the guy i was training. I watched him do it so i know it's done properly. A rigger that doesn't trust their own repack, shouldn't pack for anyone. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug! RogerRamjet 0 #17 February 8, 2005 That's the very reason I became a rigger initially, I didn't want to put my life in the hands of someone I didn't know (or anyone else for that matter). I got my ticket 3 months before my first jump (long story), but couldn't pack my own reserve until I was jumping my own gear. Packed my own T-10 static line main though ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
koz2000 1 #18 February 8, 2005 Does pencil packing your own rig as a rigger count? I'm a rigger and I pack my own reserve, sometimes even when it doesn't need it..... BlindBrick 0 #20 February 8, 2005 I pack my own but I would love to watch a Mirage-trained rigger do a repack on my rig. The reason is that my reserve is rated as a very tight fit and while it works wonderfully when I pack it, I've not been able to get all the wrinkles out of the side flaps. So it would definitely be for apperances rather than due to a lack of confidence in myself. -Blind"If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it." op5e 0 #21 February 9, 2005 I could understand a rigger getting someone else to pack their reserver for two reasons. 1. The far fetched theory that if you do something wrong that you might have done the same thing wrong with the reserve. I know shouldn't be a rigger then but it is a mindset. 2. Some people take alot more care when it is someone elses life in their hands. I am not a rigger fyi but I have heard these arguments before in different situations.
