Really dissatisfying in the third act. Lots of really cool set-ups in the first act, but nothing really pays off at the end.

I'd talk about it more, but I don't want to spoil it for others who haven't seen it yet.

Heck, I wouldn't go see it simply because, according to the plot synopsis, this movie has already been done before several times.

Oh dear, that's pretty much going to limit your viewing to maybe one or two films a decade. Name just about any popular film and my guess is I can trace its roots to another film plot.

Yep, it seems that everything is a remake of something else, or a combination of several other something else's. Every generation has to remake old movies for themselves, because for some reason, the old ones aren't cool any more. Hey, a new "Straw Dogs" is coming out - woohoo!

You say that as if it's not the way it's always been; even before movies.

You think The Brothers Grimm made up those fairytales or Joel Chandler Harris came up with Br'er Rabbit all on his own? You think the Romans didn't steal from the Greeks or the Christians from the Egyptians and Sumerians?

You should read The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell.

Movies are our modern mythology. Mythologies recycle and are retold to fit the current times, but just about every story is related to some other story that came before it. This is how it has been since man first sat around a camp fire.

I said no such thing. You should try and make your points without bashing me in the process. I know that's difficult for certain green moderators to do.

Other movies that have this same plot that spring immediately to mind are "Outbreak" with Dustin Hoffman, "Andromeda Strain", "The Stand" by Steven King, and "The Crimson Bug" (or something like that, maybe "Scarlet Bug"), from back in the 70's.

I also don't go to vampire or zombie movies. Gosh, they've been done to death. Try something else!

If you enjoy watching the same things over and over again, go for it, and enjoy. That's okay with me. Obviously there's money-making still to be had by doing the same thing over and over again. But at my age I've grown weary of the repetition, and yearn for something unique and different. Your mileage may vary.

True. Unfortunately that's true of most movies out there. The Hidden Fortress is almost identical in plot structure to the original Star Wars, for example, but most US viewers hadn't seen it since it was a Japanese movie - and thus everyone thought Star Wars was innovative.

I don't think this is due to any laziness on the part of writers, though; there are a few themes that work consistently in any genre, so people use them over and over.

If you thought that was an attack, I just don't know what to say other than you, my friend, are hysterical in the truest sense of the word.

See? There you go again.

You had a good point to make, about stories being told in different generations and different cultures. But you could have done that without trying to imply that I was ignorant for not saying it before you did. And your comment, above, just goes to show and confirm your ugly mindset.

you take things far too personally.

Right, you call me "hysterical", and not in the humorous sense, and then tell me that when I cry "foul" for your personal insult, that I'm just too sensitive. The fact that you don't see a problem here in your own behavior, is the problem.
