Voodoo D-Bag placement

Recommended Posts

I have recently bought my first rig which is a Vodoo, and Sabre 170 (second hand). I have been practicing my packing. When I first unpacked it I made sure to take note how the d-bag was stowed, in this case the lines were to the top of the container, under the reserve.
I had a look at the packing manual on the voodoo website and they say that the lines should be placed towards the bottom of the container. I asked the previous owner and he said his rigger told him to place the lines to the top and thats how he had always done it.
So I was curious how other voodoo owners place their d-bag.

the manual says to the bottom, so thats pretty much the best answer your going to get.
i personally put them to the bottom on mine and any that i pack as well.

i remember a while back there was a few ideas for putting them with the lines up. ive heard a few reasons why, but mostly it was because it fits the shape better (fatter in the middle skinnier at the bottom.) personally ive closed it both ways and it looks exactly the same, and packs the same both ways.

Well the manual is for a voodoo 2 and I think mine is a voodoo 1 (DOM is 09/01) so it may be different.
Doesn't the sabre manual say you should always pro-pack ;)

Oh btw, I found my packing card, it was hidden in a pouch behind the red warning label

The original Voodoos (late 90s vintage) were designed to be packed lines up. The d-bag was even shaped a little differently for that purpose. That design only lasted a year or two. People that have been jumping Voodoos since then sometimes still pack them that way, even if they have a newer one, but there is no reason to.

I had a Voodoo built in 2000 that I packed lines up for a while (because someone told me that's what I was supposed to do) and then later packed it lines down when I discovered the truth. It made no difference either way.

When in doubt call the manufacturer...

I have a Voodoo 2.0 and I pack it with the lines on the bottom...
