JohnRich 4 #5 November 8, 2011 What's the effect on the environment and wildlife from all this? When they disassemble everything, will that include whatever anchor points they've created (concrete?) for the cables they stretch across the river? Will mammals be scared away from their water source because of all the shiny flapping fabric? Will it affect the birds and fish? Are they going to chase down and clean up any fabric that tears off and blows away in the wind? I vote "stupid". The natural flowing river is much more beautiful all by itself, without a bunch of shiny fabric stretched across it.
JohnMitchell 16 #6 November 8, 2011 Quote Earth without ART would just be EH ! "I think I will never see A poem as lovely as a tree" The beauty and grandeur of this planet can never be considered mundane. Great works of art complement this planet's beauty, but they do not outshine it. Quote It can be beautiful and stupid at the same time.... I like Put me in that camp too. It's not a hideously ugly project. I think of it as more of a campy engineering project than a work of art. It's all part of the modernism movement, that if you make it, it's art.It does have the flowing rhythm of the river in its lines.

Art is great in its place. This is not the right place for it."What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
Krip 2 #9 November 8, 2011 Hi JR Thanks for the breath of fresh airChristo's been doing this cloth drapeing theme for at least 25 plus yr's. We first saw his work in KCMO when he spread bright yellow fabric on the concrete path's in a local park. "The beauty of art is in the eye of the beholder" Christo's been into "recyleing" before it became populer. Uses some volunteer labor etc. I'm sure if anyone was interested and did the google thing they might be surprised what this artist has done: where and when. Some Artists are into color, lighting, shadows, materials , etc. Christo's takes his art to a grand scale. JR a lot of your concerns were adressed in your own link and here's another one. http://www.christojeanneclaude.net/ If you got a hi speed internet connection the world can be your oysterK-RIP
