KevinMcGuire 0 #1 January 31, 2005 Sorry it has taken so long to post these. I hope that my explanations of the steps are clear to all but, in the event they are not, just let me know and I’ll try again. Each of the techniques I will show are done using two different colored layers of cordura, I did this so that the two layers would stand out from one another and hopefully make the explanations more clear. The two layers have been cut at the same time using a hot knife in order to sear the edges together. This helps the binding process by preventing the two layers from slipping. In many cases, a straight stitch (in addition the hot knifed edge) is used to hold the plies together. This is done when the two plies of material are expected be pulled upon in different directions during the products use. A prime example if this would be a main D-bag or a side flap of a harness container I will post several more methods to over come the various binding challenges in a few moments. I will post them in their own threads so that I can get all of the pictures up loaded. To those who care, I hope this helps Kevin Turning 90 degree inside corner. Start Binding tape on material as shown in picture 1. When the 90 degree inside corner approaches the binding attachment, fold the material that is extending to the right straight up and over so that it extends to the left as shown in picture 2. NOTE… THE UNDER SIDE OF THE MATERIAL WILL THEN BE FACING UP Sew UP TO but NOT THROUGH the folded edge leaving the needles in the material. For the best results leave the needles in material on their upward stroke. PICTURE 3.NOTE… DO NOT STICH INTO THE RAW FOLDED EDGE OF THE MATERIAL. Next, raise the pressure foot. Rotate the folded edge of the material so that the top side is now facing up and position the material so that the raw edge is placed into the binder and proceed sewing. picture 4. NOTE…SOME (not too much) PUCKERING IS EXPECTED. Sorry
yoink 321 #3 January 31, 2005 Kev Cheers for these posts - they're great. You should stick them all in a word document so people can download the whole thing when you're done and print it out...
