Loop size

Recommended Posts

When I did my license I was told to make the first two loops (stowing the lines on the pod) large and the rest small - Now I often see skydivers making all loops large oder all loops small, so I would like to know what most people prefer and why (advantages/disadvantages)

I only use 2 stows on my main bag and put the rest of the lines in a pocket on the side of the bag. I make the stows about 1.5 inches to 2 inches. I have jumped it this way for over a thousand jumps. This is the way your reserve is packed and it works great. There is no such thing as line dump from loose or short stows or you would have it on every reserve deployment. Line stows are for staging the deployment not for metering or reefing it. There is bag strip and that is caused by excessive snatch force.

Which stows do you use? I'm guessing you try to keep them towards the middle of the bag?

By "which stows" do I use, I take it you are asking what kind of bands. I use Tube Stows. and they are 3 inches in from the edge of the bag. That is on a bag that is 13 inches wide.
Like I posted earlier, this is the same way your reserve is packed and reserves do not have a problem with line dump so there is no reason a main would.
