iPod to radio connector

Recommended Posts

I need to get one of these for my Gf's mother as part of a xmas package. Problem is, every review I can find for any product basically says that all the FM transmitters suck.

Unfortunately, it is an older model car without an AUX port, and we're not going to retrofit the radio with an actual iPod adapter, so stuck with the FM transmitter option, I am.

Anyone using one that they like, that actually works well, or sucks the least?

I don't suppose it's old enough to have a compact cassette player, is it? Because if it is, a cassette adaptor is a much better option - direct line feed from the iPod to the tape head.

I had a Belkin FM transmitter for a while, and it seemed ok - the main reason I didn't persevere with it was because the FM airwaves are so crowded (largely with pirate stations!) - especially in London. I found it hard to tune to a frequency that would remain clear of interference if I drove more than a few miles. Depending on where your girlfriend's mother lives/ drives, that may not be so much of an issue.

I have a Griffin transmitter that works well. Had it for about 5 years now.

I've been using this Belkin for a while and it performs quite well. I use it primarily in my boat so there is not a lot of competition for frequencies but the fact that all you have to do is push the button and it finds a clear frequency for you to switch to makes it easy when you do get bleedover.

No cassette deck.
No AUX port.
Has a 6 disc changer though.

Really the FM transmitter is the only option we're entertaining at the moment. Just trying to find the one that sucks least.

Bingo, we have a winner.

The interface cable for most of those changers have straight audio (L&R) cables, you can splice and wire one in directly.

For about $60 you can get a new cheapo deck with an aux port. Trim kit for about $15. Be the hero and hook the lady up.

This this this. Dammit, missed it by one post.

Installation is EASY if you want to do it, or if you shop around you can find a shop that will do it free (or really really cheap) if you buy the hardware through them.
