OLED Television

Has anyone seen one? How does it compare to 1080P?

OLED is sweet. 1080p is 1080p though. OLED is nice for it's slimness and contrast. Blacker blacks. B|

I've only seen the 7" in person so I can only imagine a 50"+. :o

Yes. They look amazing in small sizes - very sharp, very bright. Problems exist in scaling it up to big (40+ inches) and lifetime. I think they've gone as big as 55" for prototypes but that was hideously expensive.

When someone calls their flat panel TV an "LED" it really means LCD. LED refers to the backlighting. (Standard LCD's use fluorescent tubes, not LED's.) They are fairly equivalent with these exceptions:

1) LED's turn on faster

2) Some LED-lit LCD's use individual dimming of the LED's to get you more dynamic range, which works well to make darks darker and brights brighter.

3) They can be thinner

Overall true OLED displays will be brighter and sharper. LCD's work by not passing or passing white light; OLED's work by actually creating the light, so they look like sharper point sources.
