Gear envy...

Did I mention my LCD TV is also 6 years old?

It must suck having to shovel coal into the TV to watch it. :P

Hmm, my car, 14 years old. I got the $$ to just write a check for a new one, but I just don't really want to.

My Infinity, 7 years old, looks brand new. Why replace it?

Both TV's are less than 2 years old, but that's just because we just barely converted to HD flat screens from old CRT's. :S:D

Been married 27 years, still in love, don't wanna mess with that either. ;)B|:D:D

I'm with you, John. Would rather spend my money on experiences than stuff.

My car's 11 years old, but still under 90K miles. It gets me from point A to point B reliably and without ginormous repair bills.

I am still jumping the (used) rig I got when I started jumping - purchased almost 7 years ago. I *just* bought my first brand-new Infinity (I suspect my excitement about that may have contributed to some of Remi's gear envy ;)).

Like you, I also just chucked the old gerbil-powered television and got an HD TV (just in time for the "next big thing" to come along, I'm sure, and I'll wait 5-10 years to jump on that bandwagon).

Yet I just happily wrote out my check for the Nicaragua Boogie, and another check for tunnel camp. I'll have absolutely nothing but photos and memories to "show" from both of those, but spending my money that way brings me lots of happiness. B|

Cue "experience envy" from Remi. :P;)

I'm really close to the same mindset. We bought new cars in the last 3 years but only since the last cars we had ran until the AC was no working in the one that had 135k and the only was so basic it had AM/FM radio and crank windows and would stall from time to time. Paid those off in 14 months. We still have hte old CRT TV's in our home and only got an flat screen when the main TV died. I am still on my first container I bought 2000+ jumps ago (same reserve too).

I've got a major case of gear envy right now looking at a new container, a new house, a new TV and new camera gear. I really want out of our house and into something larger and nicer. I REALLY want a new 5D Mark II with a pile of L glass and I've had my eye on a new freefly suit for months but in every one of these cases I just can't justify spending the cash for any of them.

I'm in for the Nicaragua Boogie but when and where is this tunnel camp? :)

There are tunnel camps regularly at pretty much every tunnel. The one in question is Feb 11-12 at my local wind tube, iFlySFBay.

I've seen mention of similar at Orlando and Denver but without dates or anything. >:(

So, call your closest tunnel or ask around at the DZ to find out who some of the main tunnel coaches are (they're not necessarily tunnel employees), and reach out to them to find out who's having camps any time soon and what the focus is. They're often organized by parties outside of the tunnel, so it can take a little sleuthing to find out more about them.

You know what feels better than giving to yourself? Giving to others....My Javelin Odyssey size is a TJNK..that way two people will be fulfilled rather than just one.:P

I've had the same rig for 7 years now.

12. My Cypres just timed out.

The same motorbike for 6.

The same bike for 4 (and all my ridding buddies are getting Specialized Tarmac SL4 's and S-Works SL4's, the bastards)

16. I did upgrade to 9 cogs after wearing out the first cassette and finding my favorite combination discontinued. I also switched cranksets after wearing out the big ring and first bottom bracket. I've worn out my rear derailleur and will be moving to 10 cogs once I get done with my current chain since the 2001 derailleur geometry change precludes getting a new replacement and most of the small parts have been discontinued for my shifters. I've worn out the right shifter a bunch of times, but Campagnolo ergo levers are rebuildable so that wasn't a big deal.

The same car for 10.

11. With 110,000 miles on it and just a few thousand new miles added each year I wouldn't be surprised to get another decade.

Less money spent on junk means it's not painful to save for retirement and leaves more money for other things like food and travel.

Why fix them if they ain't broken?.

And why go to the money tree just because everyone else has. Save your bucks for something really special...

A S-Works SL4 is _very_ special.:|

Meh. Specialized is mass market manufacture at boutique prices.

Pick your material
Steel - Pegoretti
Titanium - Moots

Carbon - Parlee

Meh.

They can make them light, but I'm a clydesdale. I want light enough a stiff as hell. Nothing beats the SL4 right now IMHO. Give me monocoque anyday before bespoke carbon lugged.

This being said, they do make them nice. :)

No reason to pick steel unless you're old and slow.

Titanium - Moots

No reason to pick titanium unless you're hypnotised by shiny things.

.... Yeah OK, that's not bad.;)

Yeah, the Spesh marketing machine is pretty good isn't it? Almost had me wanting one for a while!*

As for me, my 2003 C-dale Six-13 on 105 is still going strong, but since I work in bike shop now there just might be an R5-VWD Super Record in my near future, which just might come with me to the Swiss Alps this summer:)

*(OK, I admit it, I run a Specialized saddle - happy now?:P)
Do you want to have an ideagasm?
