Wireless Help....

Recommended Posts

I'm sure it's something simple but I'm missing it...

My wireless router (Linksys) has been transmitting the signal on the G Band. I just realized it this morning. Anyways my Mac wireless adapter supports a/b/g/n.

I logged on the the router and switched it over to broadcast on the N Band. My computer still sees the router but it won't allow me to connect to it. I get "Connection Timeout" when I try to.

What am I missing here? Any help or ideas appreciated.

I have an older Linksys router, so it might be a little different -- but try going to Wireless/Basic Wireless Settings and set it to Mixed rather than just N. Might work for you.
I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.

Yeah that does work at getting the computer to recognize it but I'm still running at G (19-22 Mbps) speeds instead of N (40 Mbps +).

I tried that....still can see the router but when I try to log on to it I get "See Administrator".....

Did you try changing the band from 2.4GHz to 5GHz (or vice versa)?

I had to set my Linksys E2000 to 2.4GHz only for my Dell, Mac and iPhone to all work on it.

I've found that sometimes wireless cards and routers just wont mesh. Don't know why but they just wont be friends.

A little trick I've found that can work is to set up a guest network through your router control. If the computer connects properly that way then you know that it has something to do with the security settings.

If for some reason you can't get it to connect after playing with the security settings then leave the guest network open (no security), change the channel and guest network name, and set the SSID to not broadcast. Then you have to manually locate the network with the computer. I've had to do this a handful of times.

Also check to see if there is any updates for both your router and wireless card.
