Let's stop pointing fingers

For just a moment, let's all sit back, relax, take a cleansing breath.

There.

Now let's just all realize that we are all test pilots in a sense. To quote(ish) the great Bill Booth, "There are no perfect airplanes, there are no perfect parachutes, there are no perfect rigs, there are no perfect skydivers, there are no perfect riggers.

No matter how close to perfection we get in the sport. Perfection will never be attained.

I would like to take a moment to appreciate all the manufacturers, riggers, instructors and skydivers that have made it their lifes work to keep striving for perfection in an effort to keep all of their customers and friends safe and educated.

Sometimes bold moves invoke great criticism. It is the brave sole that sets aside their reputation to ensure the safety of our community.

I am honored to be associated with such people. I stand behind anyone in this sport who continues to pursue perfection at any cost.

I would like to encourage others to work as a team rather than stand around isolated pointing fingers. That's not really productive for anyone.

This very subject reminds me of one of my favorite quotes, from a great man.

in a speach given at the Sorbonne in 1910, entitled "citizenship in a republic" and I believe skydiving is our republic.

This is just one paragraph:

"It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat."

That about says it. Safety first, R&D, do the best you can and improve where improvement can be made....
"Those who say it cannot be done, should not interrupt those who are doing it"
